The vanilla game tries to evenly distribute all the expenses and income, that's why it is so easy to make money in vanilla game. Real Time changes this drastically, so it is just more interesting and more challenging to build a good city.
thank you for that explanation. That means switching to RT in an already established game should be done with care... I'm just wondering why +40k income without RT got eaten up with RT, where the income is negative. Also the jump of 10-15k population is strange.
I agree, the night cycle would give less income, but even on day I can see varying income... I'll check the RT settings, maybe I find a way to fine-tune...
