Unsheathing the sword
Is there a way to remove Raiden's sword from its sheath so I can use it separately?

Are you sure? I recall seeing a few snaps of Raiden with the sword unsheathed.

You could just spawn it in twice, one where you change it to the sword and on where you change it to be an empty sheath
