Although they only fire at the cockpit, meaning they're not attacking the AT-TE itself, but rather you in the cockpit. Which reminds me, the pilot is extremely vulnerable there
NPCs attack the player, it happens with AT-TE because the player is in the front visible to them. They won't attack the vehicle itself since they recognise it as basically a prop. In AT-AT and AT-ST player is hidden inside the prop, so they may have trouble targetting him.
Sadly, these were never meant for NPCs, they're meant as vehicles for SWRP servers.
Nevertheless I will try my best to make em work.
If you want a droideka NPC, talk to someone who makes NPCs.
Either way a vehicle author isn't your best bet.
