P1 - Blue - France/Scotland/Papal state/Tatars (Franks)
Starting off with a mostly coherent kingdom in France. Also having control of Scotland and Rome, latter giving them some diplomatic advantage. Their initial weakness is at sea. Initially fulfilling conditions for the western hegemony.

P2 - Red - England/Portugal/Calvinists/Cossacks (Portuguese)
Starting off with its main base on the british islands and a secondary in Portugal, but also with some exclaves partly representing the calvinist communities on the continent. Its strength lies in the possibilities of marine superiority and isolationism.

P3 - Green - Ottoman Empire (Turks)
Starts with a grand empire and great strength both at sea as well as in arms. Lacking only strong defenses apart from Istanbul and access to the important germanic areas. Is also dependent on a fleet to protect its coast. Has initially two trade posts within its borders.

P4 - Yellow - Spanish Empire/Hafsid (Spanish)
Starting with the main part of the strategic Iberian peninsula under their control as well as several other valuable points of interest. Keeping all these valuable areas will be challenging. Initially fulfilling conditions of Trade Republic and America. Can form Habsburg Union at start (read vassalage).

P5 - Teal - Denmark-Norway/Russia/Lutherans/Wallachia (Goths)
Completely split into two separate areas, both rather peripheral, with very different fields of interest. Also interests in Central Europe. With a huge initial stock of resources, they can choose where to put their early emphasis. They have lots of land and forests.

P6 - Purple - Holy Roman Empire (Teutons)
Starting in the center of the map, with great initial strength, mostly defensive. Germany is their backyard defended by the HRE system. The position is strategic towards important trigger systems, but simultaneously a huge challenge with factions on all sides, especially the mighty turks. Can form Habsburg Union at start (read vassalage).

P7 - Grey - Venice/Hansa/Teutonic order/Saadi/Mamluk/Cossacks (Italians)
Representing several small and distant factions, this player will have big difficulties keeping it all, even though most of it is walled in well. Initially fulfilling conditions of Trade Republic, Treasury of Europe and the Balkan Hegemony. Diplomacy and naval control will be essential.

P8 - Orange - Poland-Lithuania/Sweden/Hungary/Persia/Boyars (Magyars)
Starting with two main kingdoms split by the Baltic sea and the Teutonic order. Also some additional exclaves. Has a strong cavalry and good food and wood gathering capacities. They are located somewhat peripheral and with only one big rival in the region.
