Any particular reason HDR is required?

It's no skin off my nose, but as one map maker to another, I'm wondering if there's a reason not to compile with ldr? Is it just to save on compile time or is it to avoid some compile or graphical error somewhere along the line?

HDR is no longer required. It will come back later but will not be forced.
