The SMG
I have been thinking about the SMG, and how it might be implemented into this mod as something different and unique.

My thought is that if would have very low damage output. Perhaps even just 1/2/3. It would also have rapid fire as it's built in skill, on a much lower cool down than WotC. Perhaps every turn, or perhaps every other turn.

What this would create is a weapon uniquely capable of applying on-hit or on-attack debuffs. For instance: a tier 3 SMG could shred 6 armor from a Sectopod in a single hit. Or if Holotageting stacks, Tracer Rounds would be incredibly useful against things with high innate defense.

Not to mention Blue Screen Rounds, but those are great on any weapon.

Not sure how I feel about what's essentially a rapid firing pistol shredding a Sectopod.

I think this

a) is too close to the pistol.
b) doesn't feel like a primary weapon.
