SFO unit size question
hi, love the mod, but i was wondering is this mod designed for ultra unit size? i was thinking of changing it to high i noticed that factions with high unit count are rekting performance completely, when you have like skavens vs goblins 2 vs 2 armies its nightmare

Agreed

Mod page says it's designed for Ultra, but I read elsewhere that it should be Large (which I prefer due performance reasons).

hmmm what im afraid is that the singe entity units may not be balanced for Large ;/they are strong as hell as it is, it would suck if one large dragon could melt in a seconds 40-50 unit squad of dwarfs

It seems like any battle on ultra size that involves high unit count armies will not just lag, but also have insane microstuttering. Battles with waaagh armies feel like bad stop motion animations. Panning the camera over multiple high unit count units that are fighting will of course cause an FPS drop, but will also cause "power point" animations. Also, if you pan the camera anywhere else with low unit density while this is happening, your FPS will increase, but the animations will continue to stutter. It seems that lowering other graphical settings besides unit count, and the cores tweak (https://forums.totalwar.com/discussion/215268/i-fixed-my-lag-spikes-and-stuttering) will not improve the microstuttering. This seems to be a problem with the engine, and I have been unable to find any way to fix it besides turning the count to large.

YES, the thing is i did "number of threads fix" and even with huge battels in other tw tittles i have no problems, the WTW2 is way more problematic with bigger battles that 1v1

Did any of you guys notice crappier performance with the warden and the paunch? Feel like I played fine before, yeah if there was 3 on 3 skaven sized armies clashing my computer would blow chunks but now with even half that it's a stop motion nightmare. I'm getting fine FPS but my CPU is just dying and the unit animations just slow to a crawl.

Can't say for sure, but I think my last SFO Empire campaign ran great the whole way through (Potion of Speed/Empire Undivided). I don't know if it was due to the fact that Empire armies are smaller and fewer, or if its something about either Venris or CA's update.

same, i have very decent fps (for a total war game) but im still getting slide-show with factions that have higher count units, due to this im starting to go back to older tittles or to three kingdoms total war ( way better performance)

Yep this patch has way worse performance for me than previous one.

I've got to do large units sizes with SFO.

Hell even on large unit sizes each skaven slave unit has over 200 rats. Early fights with double stacks of Skaven tanks my performance even on large unit sizes so ultra would be a slideshow.

the normal game is balanced for large, as for sfo i have no idea

Same here. My poor AMD FX-6200 is literally choking. It was choking before the newest patch but GTX 1060 was doing some of it's job. But now it's unplayable after 10 turns when battles get bigger. Especially against orcs as they always come in great numbers.

I never even played the mod with recommended unit size but that's fine. I never demanded full experience with the current PC but yeah, at least I wanted to have it playable xD
