No, the ship does not explode. Like Matt said, the shield generator domes are destructable. You can blow those up with starfighters.
Right now that's all that can be destroyed. But I was thinking of possibly adding more destructable parts in the future. I want to make the ship more interactable and also more interesting for rebels to attack. It's just that it's all a lot of work to add those features. So maybe in the future some more cool stuff, but no promises.
