am i missing something
there seems to be no explanation or guide? about what items are to be used on what
just looking for clarification

I'm also quite new, but for starters, buy a Midas Skull and a Tome of Knowledge. Both of them can then be upgraded to give you much more gold and XP. From there on, just farm the lane and different areas. Later on, you can kill bosses (you have to kill them 3 times) to drop special items that you'll need to upgrade some gear to defeat the stronger waves and ultimately win the game.

General guide:
Punch the gold mine for some gold. Carries buy Midas Armlet, Intelligence heroes buy Midas Crown. Tome of Knowledge is optional.
Carries farm their Satanic 3 and Mega Threads. After, you get Titans Armor and Guardians Helmet to get tanky. Then, farm for your Rapier and go for the end. On your way, kill bosses whenever your ready. In higher difficulties, Intelligence heroes are in charge of bosses because they are insanely strong early.

I can't even farm for the higher tier items because I couldn't find the Side Shop smh.

I found it today. The Secret Shop is behind the big glowy blue thing beyond the tombstone with the two uber towers.
