"The Ice Queen cometh."


The Ice Queen, the frosty monarch that finalizes the onslaught of the Frost Moon. She glides about the battlefield on her icey wings, throwing waves of pure cold energy and sharpened icicle shrapnel. Her form is largely mysterious, and her origin unknown. Why she reigns over the Frost Moon and its minions is anyone's guess.

Once again, another event themed boss to go along with the the current upcoming holiday. This time, it's the Ice Queen, a weird royal bat-like frost banshee. More info about her design is covered in the SFM post, so I'll keep it pretty light here.

I'd argue she might be one of the best bosses I've made so far. From a technical standpoint, she's much more complex than the other bosses, and is a bit more well rounded. For me, the arms are the most exciting part, as they are the first fully functional arms I've been able to rig. This is extremely promising, as it means I can move towards making full bipeds now.

Her wings, on the other hand, are kind of crap. They look ok, and they move about fine, but they clip with the shoulders, and generally do weird stuff when the arm rotates. I guess that's to be expected. A full bat wing is a very difficult thing to pull off. You can turn the bat wings off via bodygroups if you don't want them.

-She's pretty bottom heavy(heh), which means most of her weight will swing from the hips. Occasionally, this will cause her to do a complete loop of her body when you are carrying her around by her head.

-Due to the weight of the wings, it causes her arms to roll backwards, exposing the course icey underside. Just roll them back the other way when you are posing the arms.

-I recommend posing the arm and head first, then letting the bottom half swing and fall to a decent resting position. Attempting to pose her lower body manually is a bit of a pain. That, or I just suck at GMod posing.

-Wings tend to clip a bit around the shoulder. It's the best I can do without ripping out the wings and reworking them.

-Basic Face posing. Nothing fancy, just some eyebrow movements.

-Finger poser support is suprisingly decent.

-Wings have bones that you can tweak. It's pretty unwieldy, you'd be better off rolling the arms instead.

-Her ice spikes and crown are included as props. I couldn't figure out how to make an "ice wave", so that's excluded.
