Ladder (climbable + use tools/weapons/interactibles on it!)

This mod adds some ladder blocks. Players can climb these ladders and can mostly hold onto them while the ship is flying.


Game added ladders (again) in v1.189, however they are less featured than this mod which means this mod is not even close to obsolete, here's a few differences:
- This mod allows you to use weapons/tools and interact with buttons/inventories/etc while on the ladder.
- You can only climb it if you're physically close to it unlike the vanilla ladder which you can attach to from 5m.
- While this mod doesn't have animations (see reasoning at the end of description), it does have a smooth-in transition when you attach to it, unlike the vanilla teleport-on-it.
- Allows 2 players to pass eachother on the ladder.
- You can hold on to this ladder at higher speeds/rotations than the vanilla one.


By default the use/interact key or X on the gamepad can be used to grab on to ladders. You can change the bind in the config (see below).
You can also hold down the key/button to grab a ladder as soon as you're in range of one, useful for climbing down.

If there's gravity present, you will only be able to climb ladders that are parallel to the gravity vector (because gravity autoaligns players and I can't avoid that).


When a player first latches on to a ladder, a list of controls will appear on the HUD informing them how to control the ladder.
The progress will be saved for that player and once they completed all the actions then the messages will vanish forever (or until you lose that stored file xD).


You can customize some things for the ladder in the config file which can be found at:
%appdata%\SpaceEngineers\Storage\600062079.sbm_Ladder\settings.cfg

You can reload the config file while in game by typing /ladder reload in chat.


The ladder blocks are:
Ladder (1x1x1 large or 3x5x1 small, 10 PCU)
Ladder Segment (3x1x1 small, 10 PCU)
Ladder Retractable (1x1x1 large, 3x5x1 small, needs power to retract/extend, 125 PCU)

They're all survival ready.

The white/orange stickers slightly glow in the dark.

Colorable, build stages and LODs included as well.



- Retractable ladder explodes/moves ship in certain situations due to a game bug with AdvancedDoors (detailed info).
- (Fixed) Retractable ladder can be airtight in some cases due to issues and unmodability with doors.
- (Fixed) Input is being read even when in certain menus due to API limitations (chat and terminal menus are safe, and some others but too long a list to write).



Simply because modAPI lacks access to do them properly for this mod.
This mod allows rotation on the ladder and climbs way faster than vanilla, so using the vanilla animations means the character will look like they're climbing in slowmotion while being pulled by a rope.. in midair because you also can rotate freely which will rotate the arms and legs away from the ladder.
It's simply not worth the time to do them half-assed because it's impossible to do them properly :}
