MCI Vanguard RE2 (SC)

Description
MCI Shipyards presents: the Vanguard long-range space fighter, designed for a singular purpose – hunt and destroy Zirax supercapitals

Inspired by its namesake from SC universe and adapted to work in REFORGED EDEN 2 .

She is a 260t Core 17 end-game craft, with a hefty fast-charging shield, multilayered armor on the frontal top profile, full interior, ample storage, versatile weapons options (instructions incoming), and a drive system designed to operate at 80+% CPU efficiency and carry 110 t of ammo.

Combat tested to disarm and disable Imerats, Kamirats, Kytheras and Toveras.

She is NOT a beginner ship and requires a skill at piloting with an auto-break off. Made to kill Tovera’s, Vanguard will deal with any lighter target up to and including an Imerat without much trouble. However, more serious fights should be taken studied. 110t of ammo is enough to clear a Class 5 Combat Site in under 35 minutes but requires a good strategy on what to shoot and when – watch the video example of a Tovera engagement. Higher-end fights also require specific easy-to-affect mid-combat repairs – see section in REPAIR ACCESSES below.

She also comes in 2 colours – Ravien black with red accents, and Grey with blue and white accents. To apply, copy the preferred pallet from below, open the ship's colour pallet, press configure, then select the entire pallet (click top left colour, hold shift, click bottom right colour) and press paste/Ctrl-C. Unfortunately the RE2 ramp blocks do not re-colour, so you would have to repaint them manually – simply select the standard grey (first column, 4th row) or black (last column, 4th row) and apply to all large sloped surfaces that did not re-colour as desired.

Features:

- REFORGED EDEN 2 ONLY

- Core 17, designed to operate at 80%+ CPU efficiency

- Advanced Jump Drive

- Advanced Detector for better space ops

- Drive and power systems designed to operate at 80+% CPU efficiency and move an operational weight of up to 370t. NOTE: due to the extreme CPU and power expenditure, it is recommended to fight with an auto-break off to minimise unnecessary breaking and cooking off the generator (it will happen a little bit anyway, keep your eye on the status and affect repairs as needed – see below)

- Main Weapon Loadout: 2x Vulcan Cannon (Heavy), 2x Torpedo Launchers (Heavy), 6x EMP Bomb Launchers and 5x Light Gatling Turrets. All but the primary Vulcan mounted on the nose (and ofcourse the turrets) are embedded and well protected. All weapons are slaved to the Weapons toggle (Ctrl-Alt-2) that needs to be programmed manually for every weapon installed or swapped

- Flexible Weapon Loadout: alternative weapon loadouts are also available for the Vanguard. She can carry 3 or 4 Vulcans (or any other heavy weapons, sans the missile racks and torps) instead of the 2-2 Vulcan-Torp split she is fitted stock. Options also exist for Light Missile and a Turret POI builds. Instructions on how to do this take ages to put together, I will upload them as we go

- Advanced Shield with parts to 34k HP over 1560 recharge

- Mixed materials hull - designed to protect from cascading while saving on weight. Unshielded Vanguard can survive direct fire from a Tovera long enough for a good pilot to pull from point-blank to beyond its weapons range with practically no loss in combat functionality. Note that the armor on the bottom and top rear sections is thinner, so, recommend rolling the craft to protect those areas

- 45 kL Ammo spread between 2 controllers – front and rear (32 and 13 kL respectively) arranged symmetrically across the ship (so, no need to worry about unequal loading). Load heavier ammo in the 32kL controller first to minimise yaw offset)

- Signature MCI Reactive Pilot Display (see pic)

- Two pilot seats and a passenger seat

- Rear ramp exit (operates as described in the pics) and a top space hatch (automatic). Warning: to maximise interior protection – rear ramp exit is made intentionally small and requires brief crouching to go through. Watch your head! )

- Full interior with three isolated compartments – rear, main and cockpit – with assorted storage, armor lockers, Oxygen Station, Trauma Station, Constructor, Food Processor, Fridges and a Clone Chamber. Systems Compartments and Repair Accesses are located throughout the interior and marked accordingly

- Gravity Generator

- Rear Compartment also features a small hold with emergency glass pannels, landing gears (you will be losing those all the time – no way around it with Eleon), and replacement CS plates. These can be used in an emergency if critical damage is taken and the hull needs to be sealed before you can reach a carrier ship or a station

- REPAIR ACCESSES to all major systems:
The principal feature of the Vanguard is the ability to repair nearly all major systems from the inside without having to land or step out into the black. The primary Vulcan Cannon mounted on the nose and the ventral Light Gatling Turret are the two of the ship’s armaments attracting the most fire. These, along with both Torpedo Launchers, the starboard Vulcan and the 2 port EMP Bomb Launchers, can all be repaired via shutters positioned throughout the interior and marked accordingly. The shutters are explosion proof and will survive weapon blow-out.

Note that, as the Fusion Generator will take overload damage during the fight, it may require repairs as well – and is accessible via a marked shutters in the rear compartment.

Testing has revealed that the Shield Generator and various shield parts may take some bleed-through pen damage during the fight – so, keep and eye on those too.

Good news are that - thanks to the presence of gravity on the ship - all of these repairs can be affected with ease mid-fight – see the example Tovera fight recording.

IMPORTANT: KEEP THE SHUTTER UNDER THE PILOT'S SEAT CLOSED AT ALL TIMES IN COMBAT! This is critical to avoid pilot's seat blow out due to lag-shot pen.

MCI Shipyards hopes you'll enjoy flying the Vanguard! She is not the easiest ship to master, but is capable of securing any orbit or space sector in Zirax space – if you put your head to learning her.

P.S. As noted – additional loadout option instructions will be uploaded in pics as they undergo additional testing and I have the time to take screenshots and do some Illustrator work up to MCI Shipyards standard.

And then the second torp launcher appread to be a lucky find when I shot at one of the two ventral heavy plasma cannons and was surprised by a much bigger and brighter explosion - turns out a well placed hit or two on each side there knocked out tovera's shield generators without damaging anything else overly valuable.
So the fight duration went down by over a half, the emp bomb load could be reduced and I could now take extra torpedoes on board to take out domed missile turrets to clear a parking space in a much more natural boom and zoom fashion. And with a reinforced cockpit cage the risk of glass blow out went down drastically.
But so between this development track and the recent increase in the SV block hit points, the Vanguard is now a little bit overarmored for the purpose.
I have new project in mind that should simplify the fight a little more I think. But I need to work out the shaping first (god damn elite dangerous simple yet difficult to precisely pull hull lines).

I wanted to avoid the damage to the internals as much as possible and so was reticent to introduce the torps. So I added just the one on the starboard side to help killing the big guns and the drives, and optimised the armor layout to withstand some 55 minutes of sustained pen damage from a tovera - that's how long it took to disable her.
But the damage was still excessive and the risk of loosing the cockpit glass to the heavy plasma was still too high for general use recommendation. I also had to restrip shields all the time and do the miserable laser cannon strip with the vulcans on one of the tovera's nacelles while hiding its the thin edge shadow from the rest on the move - before torping out the drives (you can't fight a stationary tovera).

Thank you very much for your kind words, legend_slayer!
I hope she serves you well! Vanguard is a combination of form and function creation, and it took me a while to figure everything out. She was originally tested to fight with just 4 Vulcans against imerats and kamirats and worked well enough there, but struggled against a tovera - those heavy plasma guns and beam cannons were messing up the aim too much for consistent burst fire and did too much damage.

Killing a Tovara in an SV is a peak Empyrion accomplishment, topped only by building a ship that can do so. Kudos on both the beautiful / functional ship design, and the skill to take down supercaps with it. I will definitely be trying this out in our server!
