Rauf, dragged away screaming, fingernails scraping hopelessly across the ground. Maev, swallowed up into the earth. Vern, crushed by rubble. All we had built, laid waste in moments.

I can't find Father. I know in my heart that I am the only one who remains.

They have gone still, frozen in place, a stony reminder of the terrors of that night. Tonight, I plan to escape this island.
