1958 Vanwall VW5

Description
Vanwall VW chassies 1-11 were cars from racing program by Tony Vandervell. It rised Great Britains motorsports level. Its most succesful year was 1958, it won first Formula One constructors championship and Stirling Moss lost drivers championship only by one point.

One of best racecars of 50s - superior aerodynamic efficiency achieved by Frank Costin, chassis designed by Colin Chapman, very good engine, great Dunlop tires especially in 1958 when they introduced R5, Porsche did some help for transmission, advanced use of alloy wheels, Goodyear disc brakes built by Vanwall which they used since 1954, car also was light. Car had some troubles, to name one cooling, which was more troublesome in 1958 because new fuel requirments which resulted in higher heat. Vanwall VW cars might have been in total domination if driver seat position was lower.

Unfortunately Vanwall faded away through 1959 as Cooper proved that rear mid engine layout was superior. Vanwall managed to build lowered car "Lowline", als othey built a beautiful rear mid-engined F1 car as their swan song. Cooper and Lotus carried on.

Version 0.8

Special thanks for Mexes1978 and his excelent models.

Physics by me. Was more challenging than I anticipated

Mod includes historicaly accurate 1957 and 1958 cars physics. Also "Modern Historics" version which is little bit quicker, bit more powerful and with tires a little better.

Lovely addition to my classic car collection. Just had a test drive on an old Italian circuit called Pescara and enjoyed every moment. Thanks!

It might set on fire in bad hands.

Few tips unrelated to fire:

- Use lowered roll center chassis upgrade for very twisty or bumpy tracks where it is hard to keep the power down. I am not entirelly sure about the authenticity of this upgrade, but in some tracks IRL pictures it is evident that roll stiffness at rear was lower than I could achieve with normal height roll center. The default option should usually also work well, sometims you might have to soften rear, or do other setup tricks you know.

- Ues setups works and has significant role.

- Do understeer into apexes sometimes, it helps to keep car more neutral and reduce oversteering.

- Be careful.
