SNCF BB 12000

Description
SNCF BB 12000 (Iron)

The SNCF BB 12000, nicknamed 'Iron' by railway workers, are the first locomotives to use EDF's industrial voltage of 25 kV AC.
The 12000, 13000, 14000, and 14100 were developed to replace steam locomotives in northern France, the mining basin, thereby reducing the SNCF's coal costs by 70%.
A new locomotive could then replace 2 steam locomotives on a train with an identical load.
They are mainly found in northern France, but some were assigned to the East (e.g., Dôle Depot for the Dôle-Vallorbe link).
The BB 12000 were developed as high-speed but versatile locomotives.
During their career, they were assigned to passenger trains, mail, and freight (mainly coal).
The locomotives had two notable liveries:
- The single-phase blue (a livery that contrasted with the green usually used)
- The Celtic green (adopting the colors used by SNCF)

In this pack, you will find the following variants:

  • BB 12001 (pre-series livery).
  • BB 12001 (green livery).
  • BB 12002 (blue livery).
  • BB 12003 (blue livery with black plates).
