In the spring of 1943, due to the gradual cessation of production of the KV series heavy tanks and the many problems with the SU-152 self-propelled gun based on the KV series heavy tank chassis, in order to destroy the German army's strong defense fortifications and new heavy tanks in the campaign, the Soviet Union decided to use the newly developed IS heavy tank chassis to produce a new heavy self-propelled gun. This design scheme was named the "241 Project". And officially equipped with troops in November 1944, it played an important role on the battlefield with its powerful firepower and the effectiveness of high explosive bombs, known as Stalin's iron fist
