Description
Cinematic Mod has been ported to workshop.

Requirements

1. +r_hunkalloclightmaps 0 launch option is required. (Library - Half-Life 2 - Properties - Set launch option: +r_hunkalloclightmaps 0)

2. The workshop version of the mod functions under Vulkan and requires a Vulkan capable GPU. If you are using Nvidia GPU, set -vulkan launch option. If you are using a modern AMD gpu, skip this and don't add the -vulkan parameter. (Library - Half-Life 2 - Properties - Set launch option: -vulkan)

High Dynamic Range in the options should be on "Full". This avoids a "fullbright" issue.

3. It is preferable to unsubscribe from other mods not related to Cinematic Mod, as they might cause glitches. Even the smallest mods are likely to cause problems. Only subscribe to Cinematic Mod related mods or risk potential instability.

It is encouraged to use Vulkan launch option on NVidia graphics cards. (If you are using Radeon RX series or possibly any modern AMD gpu, you don't need a vulkan parameter.)

Launch options should look like this: +r_hunkalloclightmaps 0 -vulkan (Vulkan should be set for Nvidia GPUs. It's not required for users with newer AMD graphics cards)

4. Select Half-Life 2: Episode Two in the main menu before starting the mod to load necessary materials.

About the mod

This version of the mod does not replace Half-Life 2 and instead functions as a separate campaign launched through "Extras - Workshop" tab in the main menu. It has been condensed to approximately 30GBs instead of 50. It uses the standard Half-Life 2 character models except citizen NPCs (the higher detail standard HL2 models are used) and weapons. In order to use Cinematic Mod specific character models, other workshop items have to be downloaded separately.

The wasteland section is set during the night.

To change chapters, activate developer console and use "changelevel" command and type the map's name. Here is Half-Life 2 map reference

(Some of the maps are merged into one to reduce loading screens, meaning standard Half-Life 2 map reference isn't always reliable, thus manually loading maps through a console is a risk, as it might load you into a standard map, rather than the one from Cinematic Mod. It is recommended to play through the mod normally to go through the correct map transitions, but If you are using a Half-Life 2 map reference to change chapters, keep awareness of such potential outcome.)

There may be rare map-specific crashes, such as crash on map 4 (rooftop) where crash might occur if you are moving too fast. Mostly it is just a one-time scenario. More information

If you are experiencing bugs and glitches, it is recommended to unsubscribe from other unrelated to Cinematic Mod workshop mods.

Cinematic Mod (Episode Two)

Full separate Cinematic Mod versions with modified Alyx. (They had to be released as separate mod releases to avoid issues with this version. Only one version has to be subscribed to, depending on the model preference. Requirements for the separate versions are equally applied.)

In short, if you want one of the Alyx models, subscribe to one of these versions listed below instead. They are identical to this version, just with a different Alyx model. If you want models for other characters, subscribing to them in the attached collection at the top of this page is enough.

Full separate release with modified Alyx. (Alyx - HD)

*It's not your fault though, thank you for porting it over to the workshop, it's otherwise great !

Honestly it was a terrible decision to keep the Cinematic Mod combat changes, it completely breaks certain areas because of the insane bullet damage the Combine do. The guy who originally made Cinematic Mod (as well as being a massive creepy pervert) was obviously a moron who didn't understand HL2 has hitscan damage; you can literally get so many ridiculous moments where the Dropship and Hunter Chopper guns just shred you in less than 2 seconds at full health. Things like increasing the Antlion health is also hilariously stupid, they take 3+ shotgun blasts sometimes.

cinematic mod changes the balance of the game, but along with increased player damage intake, the player damage is also higher and headshots are more efficient.
