GETA DA Class Rebuild

Kuvaus
Sometime in the late 80s to early 90s, the GeTA Sulfur’s fleet of DA Class locomotives were starting to show their age. To fix this, the railway decided to start a rebuild program for all the DA engines.

The rebuilt locomotives (designated G12R by the railway) have many mechanical and electrical changes. These locomotives were also used as a prototype for the scheme that would later be used on the AC44.

The program was canceled shortly after it began in favor of buying new engines as the G12Rs were not sufficient for the GeTA Sulfurs expanding operations.

The already rebuilt locomotives would be sent out across the GeTA railroad hauling freight, often lashed up with the non-rebuilt DA class locomotives or occasionally with the AC4400s.

While the rebuild program was not successful, the G12R is still a reliable locomotive and plays an important part in the operation of the GeTA Sulfur Railroad
