Gelendvagen or Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a legendary SUV manufactured at the Steyr-Puch plant (now Magna Steyr) in Austria. It was developed as a military vehicle, and in 1979 a civilian version was offered. The characteristic features of the car are the rectangular outlines of the body and its frame construction. Gelendvagen is one of the few models that are equipped with three fully locking differentials. Despite the fact that in 2006 the GL-Class model was launched, which was planned to replace the G-Class, the latter is still in production and remains the longest-running model in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

The second generation of the G-Class was released in 1989. Gelendvagen received a significantly updated chassis, ABS system, permanent all-wheel drive system. The interior was modernized in accordance with modern requirements, wood accents appeared and, as an option, leather upholstery. The range of engines offered has also expanded, featuring V8 petrol engines with a capacity of 5 to 5.5 litres, a 6-litre V12 and two diesel engines: a 2.9-litre V6 and a 4-litre V8.
