LB&SCR Locomotive Superpack 1870-1934

Description
LB&SCR
Locomotive Superpack: 1870-1934

Hoo boy.

Ok. So I've wanted to update my old LB&SCR locomotives for a while now. They're some of the first 3D models I've made, and they're a port from Transport Fever 1 and they. are. Rough.

So after making the Generic Engines Pack, I started thinking about if I could make a similar pack made of modular components, and use it to recreate the LB&SCR engines. IT seemed straightforward enough - unlike a lot of railway companies, the design evolution of LB&SCR was pretty linear, with a lot of shared components.

So, it worked on paper. In practice? Not so much. I ran into problems pretty much immediately, and binned that whole approach.

But. I'd started something. So....I kept going. And the more I kept going, the more the scope of the project kind of....crept. Suddenly, I wasn't just redoing my old mods.

Suddenly I was doing all of the engines. And thats what this mod pack is.

Effectively*, this mod contains every type of steam locomotive built by the London, Brighton & South Coast railway between 1870-1923. There's a total of 45 different locomotives included in this pack, ranging from the tiny little A1 Terriers all the way up the the L class 4-6-4T and SR N15X 4-6-0.

I've also included a couple of semi-fictional locomotives - for example, the 'E7' & 'E7X' 0-8-0T, and the 'L2' class 4-6-0 were both proposed designs that were never built.

Also because its my mod (and I can do what I want :o ), I've also added a couple of purely fictional builds - the 'L3' 2-8-4T, effectively a mixed traffic/freight version of the L Class, and the 'M' class 4-8-0. If you don't like fictional stuff then by all means, you don't have to use them, but they look pretty cool IMO, so check them out!

As is standard for all of my mods, the locomotives come in a number of different liveries, and include aging, tinting, placeable assets, group menus, and head and tail lamps that change depending on the direction of the locomotive!

A new feature to this pack is also animated inside motion!

As I'm sure you can appreciate there's a lot of moving parts going on in this mod, so I might have overlooked some details, or there might be some bugs, so please let me know in the comments if anything pops up. Your feedback is always appreciated!

Features

-45 Locomotives from the London,. Brighton & South Coast Railway
-All locomotives come with 9 liveries:
-LB&SCR Improved Engine Green,
-LB&SCR Stroudley Freight Green,
-LB&SCR Marsh Umber,
-LB&SCR Marsh Freight Black,
-SR Maunsell Green,
-SR Freight Black,
-BR Lined Black,
-BR Unlined Black,
-BR Green,
-A total of over 400 combinations of locomotive and livery!
-Full aging and recolour support. Detailed dirt and rust accumulates as the engine ages.
-Engines are sorted in depot menus to reduce purchase menu clutter.
-Small file size and .dds compressed textures, to help with load speed.
-Placeable rail assets allowing placement of the engine in all variants, as well as pre-aged placeables.
-Moddable engine numbers - edit the number of the train and the number will display on the side of the locomotive.
-Head and tail lamps change depending on direction.
-Too many liveries? Disable the liveries you don't want to use in the in-game mod config menu!

Enjoy!

*-Now I do say effectively, because there are some omissions. However, this is stuff along the lines of the Richmond class, which was effectively just a slightly shorter B1, or the I4, which was effectively the same as an I2 - stuff I felt was more or less already represented from a gameplay perspective.

Like my mods?

@Lord Benjamin: The locomotives use my own set of smoke emitters data that doesn't play well with some of the mods that change them for all locomotives and it can result in that double effect.

I can't recall the name off the top of my head but there's a fairly popular one that gets used a fair bit, if you disable it and then replace the locomotives (the existing ones will be broken and create a giant ball of smoke until they're replaced, as the other mod changes the emitter data of all locomotives), then you should get a better visual result result.

Hey I love your work so much the engines look and function great just one thing, i notice theirs a double smoke thing coming out the main funnel is that supposed to be like that , the bottom is lighter so im wondering if your going for a relief valve effect? huge fan of the work otherwise

@ethan: I'm on hiatus at the moment. I've got some stuff in the works, but RL comes first and I won't be releasing anything until next year.

This combines/replaces every LB&SCR locomotive mod you have made? So many...

one more thing is the m class 4-8-0 supposed to be freight or passenger or mixed traffic like your L3 class 2-8-4 tanks
ethan 2 Oct, 2024 @ 4:53pm
i think the ficonal locos like the lbscr L3 2-8-4 and the m class 4-8-0 could be brand new steam engines for the 21st century do you agree

These are without doubt the best British locos available in the game!
