You are not crashing because you are using this "outdated" mod, but because you are trying to either use this mod along with an incompatible mod or you have corrupted files.
Check again the incompatibile mod list and do tests to check what other mod is triggering the crash when used with this mod.
Either with the next big patch or paid DLC release.
It is always a good practice to add new mods when starting a brand new save file rather than adding mods to an ongoing one, the risk of borking said file is way too high if you ask me.
There is still a chance that the mod still works just fine even in multiplayer but since I don't have any concrete and certain data regarding desyncs and other multiplayer related issues that could affect this mod at ANY point of a multiplayer campaign, It would probably be better to just avoid this mod and be safe and stick with mods that are actually tested and meant to be used in multiplayer.
