Have you ever been in that situation where you need to stop a prison break, but every weapon you have is dangerous or deadly? What about seeing that raider that has the PERFECT stats and interests you need, but you keep having to reload because your colonist keeps killing them? Perhaps your colonist is on a mental break, and you want to make sure they don't get harmed when being dealt with?


Then this mod is for you!

Introducing Cryoweapons, specialized weapons that aren't about killing and mutilating, but are more about pacifying and preserving. No longer will you need to resort to clubs or fists to (hopefully) down a target with minimal injury.







Mod Philosophy and Background:
This mod started as an internal addition to a mod called Rimtroid. Rimtroid added several new creatures that got progressively resistant to the standard damage types (heat, sharp, blunt, and pierce). However, their one actual weakness was their intolerance to cold. Thus, a couple cryoweapons were put into the mod.

However, their utility could be applied beyond Rimtroid. Additionally, I have had my situations where injuring or even killing targets that i wanted to bring in alive and/or healthy, for one reason or another. Unfortunately vanilla Rimworld doesn't have many options to achieve this, and there are few mods that fill this gap. So the cryoweapons were removed from Rimtroid, and given their own mod.

-Yes, it can on the surface. However, in exchange for being able to down targets without much damage inflicted, Cryoweapons are quite expensive in research and materials, have high warmup, and have a very low range in comparison to other weapons of their archetype. Additionally, these weapons still do have a chance to kill the target due to how their damage over time (DoT) works.


Can these weapons kill?
-Yes. They do fire bullets, and frostbite can kill a pawn. However this damage is intentionally left to be miniscule. Pawns can die by the minor bullet damage, the DoT destroying a vital organ, or the frostbite building up to 100%.


Is this an addition/alternative to VFE: Viking's Cryptoweapons?
-No. This is a project that was entirely designed without it in mind, and two of these weapons actually existed within Rimtroid before VFE Vikings was release. This mod will work with or without VFE Vikings, and both may actually compliment one another.


Why do these weapons cause continuous damage?
-This mod is not only intended to give enemies frostbite, but to also slow them down entirely. The damage over time assists that by applying frostbite damage over the target. This damage then causes stagger, and will impact stats such as movement and manipulation.

Is this compatible with Com-?
-No. Possibly in the future, but no current plans for bringing it into CE.

@Rift heya! This does not work with 1.5 as far as I am aware (but it might, I haven't tested). Feel free to try it, and if it does I will slap the 1.5 tag on it!

If it doesn't, use Addie's Cryoweapons mod, which is a spiritual successor to this one. It's really well done, and I absolutely recommend it.

There IS an active plan for the return of this one, but... those plans will take some time.

I currently am working on Terrasecurity and Rimtroid. Being a single person in charge of such ambitious mods, it's been impossible to address everything.

A delay has happened due to moving, and I will not be able to update this mod for 1.5 in the time frame I wanted (tomorrow). So this, and my other mods, will be updated as soon as possible. In the meantime you can try to see if this mod works in 1.5, but I cannot guarantee it will.

Cryoweapons will not be immediately getting any new content in 1.5.
