Undoubtedly, the rue de Foncillon remains an indisputable witness of Royan as it appeared after the Reconstruction. And among this anthology of houses, each more original than the other, stands out a masterpiece of eccentricity. Crushing its stone base firmly anchored in the asphalt, a prism of white concrete imposes its undeniable power on the street. The superposition of two identical apartments, intended to accommodate two independent families, can be seen on the facades. While large openings pierced in the axis of the street open the living rooms on the ocean, trellises and overhangs protect the most exposed spaces from the sun. Adjoining the entrance, the curve of the stairwell, borrowed from the design of household arts, gives the building its inimitable style. At the corner of the small garden, a spiral staircase winds around a concrete mushroom to reach the balcony and terrace. Accentuated by the use of a ceruleum blue, these singular elements will perhaps immerse you in the universe of Jacques Tati. The quality of this project perfectly reflects the incomparable production of the architect Pierre Marmouget, faithfully assisted in his undertaking by Édouard Pinet.
