THE POOLROOMS
The Poolrooms, based off of the amazing renders by Jared Pike![www.jaredpike.art] This is a scenic map, attempting to stick as closely as possible to the original renders, with no events. As well as using it for nice screenshots, NPC chases work well in this map's winding halls. An alternative version of the map, decorated in a brutalist fashion, can be found here.

This map is a fairly large recreation of the Poolrooms concept, including illogical lighting, endlessly repeating white tiles, and an inescapable sense of loneliness!



"Level 37, commonly referred to as the Poolrooms, is an expansive complex of interconnected rooms and corridors submerged in undulating, lukewarm water. Each area of the level varies greatly in size and structure, ranging from uniform pools and hallways to more open, abnormally shaped areas. The majority of surfaces in the level are composed of white, ceramic tiling, with the only deviation from this color being the blue-green hue of the water. The tiles are eerily pristine in condition, all identical to one another, without a single hint of damage on their shiny surfaces." (I actually wrote Level 37 of the Backrooms!)

Tips:
  • It is recommended to have mat_hdr_level set to 2 and mat_specular set to 1 for the best possible quality.
  • To make the map look as similar as possible to the original renders, disable color correction (mat_colorcorrection 0) and from the shaders tab in the menu, enable Color Modification, choose the "Default" preset and set Contrast to 2. Play around with other values to get an even more accurate look!
  • A map of the Backrooms (Level 0) can be found here.

Oh lord that’s bright. I gotta check if it looks the same on my end. I’m looking into changing the water texture itself to make it bluer without using fog as a crutch

Thank you for answering so fast. Indeed, turning the conCommand fog_enable_water_fog to 0 did change the look of the water : it made it even more "electric blue" :/

Maybe my game could be corrupted somehow, but as it only happens in this map I don't know...

It’s a result of the water fog. You can turn it off in console with fog_enable_water_fog 0. I had to choose between vibrant water that looks bright everywhere or dull water with proper lighting in dark areas, and I chose vibrancy

Is the water in the map is supposed to be "electric" sky blue tone ? It's the only map where this happens like in every section of the map, while the night version mostly have "transparent" toned water and some section where the water have this sky blue tone.

check valve dev wiki but water textures need $lightmapwaterfog and $flowmap which is apparently a teeeeedddiiooouusss process

you should recompile this map. gmod got an update recently for lightmaps on water brushes and it would improve the quality greatly.

Does anyone know the best values to change in the shaders tab to make it as accurate as possible to the original pictures? i alredy disabled colorcorrection btw
