Rotate skybox with the Sun

Description
This simple mod makes it seem like you are the one rotating with the planets, instead of the sun rotating around you like it actually does, by simply rotating the skybox (starfield) with the sun.

At very low sun rotation speeds (1h per day or longer) it is faint enough to just be a feeling rather than be noticeable.

Not really recommended with fast sun speeds as it can induce motion sickness.
And of course the mod does nothing if sun rotation is turned off.

Will work with any skybox mods.

Known issues
- Skybox shimmer
If using a skybox mod that is too detailed, like tiny pixel stars, it will shimmer when it rotates simply because of limitations of screen resolution, it needs a smooth/blurrier skybox (like the vanilla one) for the rotation effect to not make it shimmer.
This is not something I can fix.

- Different sim on client vs server can teleport sun, and in turn teleports the skybox into a new rotation.
I'm looking into some ways to mitigate this as it is much more obvious when skybox teleports.


To-do:
- Add a client config to allow players to turn it off for themselves.

sometimes, i like the skybox shimmering, if you do strictly planet-based gameplay, with atmospheres, it would make it look somewhat realistic

thx for your (fast) answer. i was able to "fix" the sun for one position - but only there ... the Sun seems here not to work the same way i am used to ;)

If you're talking about the code, this rotates the skybox not the sun. There's no access to rotate the sun in an arbitrary rotation, it can only be hackily rotated on its predefined axis (the same axis from my comment in 2023).

There's mods that use all the tricks we could find to make the sun sort of look like it's in the world, try those.

hi, i am a bit afraid of quaternions ;) ... if it would be easy and you would have time: what do i need to change, to have the sun always seen "from" 0/0/0 (i moved Earth away already)

First can you test with only this and the skybox mod to ensure it's not some other mod overriding things.
If it still happens can you supply that world with just these 2 mods so I can repro the issue and find a fix.
Also how long until it triggers? If it's too long can you instead show screenshots when it's in sync and when it's not (more of a confirmation that we're both talking about the same things).

This is awesome definitely a must have. I'm using it with the Space Just Got Real skybox and the small amount of shimmer it creates makes it look like there's twinkling stars, I love it.

This is awesome. I'm into astrophotography and it's always bugged me how the skybox doesn't rotate. Throw this on the plugin loader?
