The Milky Way Overhaul

Description
What does this do?

This addon replaces the default Milky Way with a new model and high-quality textures, primarily focusing on realism and accuracy but with some artistic liberties. All with the goal to represent what our galaxy might look like in real life (or at least, my interpretation of it).

The texture is based on real-life imagery of spiral galaxies like NGC 6744, UGC 12158, NGC 5194, and from some artistic interpretations like Stefan Payne-Wardenaar's interpretation[www.esa.int] and Pablo Carlos Budassi map[commons.wikimedia.org].

Does this alter procedural generation?

This addon doesn't change the texture responsible for the procedural generation of stars and nebulae in the Milky Way, so all of your saved locations within the galaxy should still exist (If they don't, make sure to check you don't have any other addons that might be changing the procedural generation of stars! E.g. addons that add galaxies or modify properties of existing ones).

How to install?

Press the subscribe button, and the installation will begin automatically. After that, right-click the game on your Steam library and click ''Manage'', then go to ''Browse local files''. Look for the ''cache'' folder and delete it (don't worry it's safe to do this, it regenerates after opening the game again). It's important that you also follow this instructions If you wish to uninstall or install a new addon update.

NOTE: If the addon still doesn't work after an update, you might try unsubscribing and re-subscribing so the workshop can download the files again.

The texture is already based on Stefan Payne-Wardenaar's interpretation, which currently is the best artistic impression of the Milky Way based on GAIA's data afaik

As far as accuracy goes, changing the galaxy texture is the most I can do with current SE limitations.

If this addon gets updated again, will it resemble GAIA's data?

Ok.

It's kinda complicated, but the SE website explains the basics of it. Some things are outdated, so I plan to make a tutorial on it in the future

Also, was wondering how do you change the galaxy or mod it?
keudemiller 10 Jun @ 8:07pm
I used this version and the other version of this mod and i also used your Andromeda mod and the new version of the mod I couldn't even tell the difference until I turned it off and turn back on, you did a great job in this one I was wondering if you could do a whirlpool rework mod.

@Scundo Gundo Unfortunately, I can't implement that sort of detail with what SE allows me to do. I can tell the program where the dust goes in the galaxy and can change it's shape trough certain paremeters, but it's all procedural. I have tried to match the location of the dust with what GAIA has mapped, but it's impossible to make it look exactly like that.
