BR Class 56 Pack

The Class 56 is a British locomotive built by BREL and Electroputere in Romania. Nicknamed "Grids", they were built for freight operations in the 70s, however, due to a lack of room at manufacturing plants in the UK due to other projects, 30 were built in Romania by Electroputere, with these locos eventually being withdrawn not long after entering service to be rebuilt due to poor build quality and performance. The bodyshell is based off the earlier Class 47, without the headcode panel. Due to uneconomical operation, many of them were withdrawn in the early 2000s, with operators favouring newer locos like the Class 66. Some of the 56's were used abroad in France building the LGV Est line (since returned to the UK), and 3 examples have been exported to Hungary.

18 Class 56's have been purchased by GBRf for conversion to the new Class 69, replacing the engine and controls with the ones from the 66. 10 are due to be rebuilt, with an additional 6 as swaps for currently due-for-rebuild units, spares, or additional rebuilds, with the rest designated as spares.
