British Rail Intercity 250 Concept

The Intercity 250 was a concept high speed train proposed by British Railways in the late 1980s. It would essentially be a faster, more streamlined, tilting version of the Class 91, and would run with new high speed Mark 5 coaches. The project began to take shape, with a model and a mock up cab being designed. Ultimately the funding was cut and the privatization of the railways smothered the projects final embers of hope. The proposed builder of the trains was Siemens, and they would be put into service on the West Coast Mainline, and other electrified routes across the country. Alongside the trains, realignments of sections of the WCML to allow for higher speeds were also proposed, but that aspect of the project was scrapped relatively early on. Think of it as pre HS2 HS2.
