Designed by John Brownin,who was commissioned by FN who were following a request of the French army,the Browning High Power was supposed to become the replacement for their service pistols. It was originally produced in FB's plant in Belgium for a number of armies (Belgium itself,Finland,Portugal,and lots of small contractors), when the Germans occupied the country a group of engineers fled to the UK,who settled them on a factory in Canada,where they made HPs for most of the allied powers (who used them in varying numbers through the war). In Belgium,the original factory was taken over by the Germans, who kept making the pistols for both the SS and regular forces
