Description
VETERAN NOTICE: As of the "Gamma" update, a significant amount of content has been removed that was mostly bloat and half-baked, especially things that many other mods do better. Some old subs using Thalassophobia may not work.

Elevator Pitch
Thalassophobia (meaning "fear of the ocean depths") is a popular multiplayer-oriented Barotrauma mod that adds significantly more content with an emphasis on fun. It aims to expand many aspects of the vanilla game, especially neglected ones such as the social aspect, the horror aspect, botany, genetics, research, and even roleplay; It attempts to take Barotrauma to it's "full potential".
What's in it?
There is quite a bit of content in this mod. The amount of content is comparable to a major update to the vanilla game. It would be shorter to list general concepts expanded on that Thalassophobia players love the most:
  • Genetics is vastly expanded on and much more powerful than in vanilla Barotrauma. With the "hands-on" research tools, players can graft entire bodyparts with special abilities onto characters.
  • Botany is much more engaging with higher risk and reward, and features deadly flora capable of spreading disease, shooting out maggots, gassing players, and more.
  • Significantly more clown-related items such as banana peels, party horns, fake guns, whoopee cushions, and other prank-related material.
  • You can praise the honkmother in your own special way with an indepth cult system full of voodoo powers and nightmarish curses.
  • In campaign, you can join factions with story effects, enjoy a slew of new events, visit new types of outposts, and make money in new and exciting ways.
Target Demographic
This isn't a "tryhard mod". There are not eighty monsters spawning in every trip, world ending weaponry that blend your enemies, or space marine combat armor. The difficulty is aimed at replicating roughly the same (if not a little more balanced) difficulty curve of Barotrauma: A relatively "casual" curve, with more types of content and things to do.

While there are disasters in this mod that can be very difficult to come back from, none of them are forced on you, and are usually the result of messing with things out of your depth.

how do i splice and what does the atomic converter do plus why are teh clones from teh thingy enemys (red name) and how do i use the biosample collector. for now this shoul do

A real annoying bug I've been having - an outpost manager offering to hire either a clown, a cultist or a scientist for 3500 and you cant fucking refuse

I believe it conflicts with Dynamic Europa, causing mission makers to not spawn. Removing Thalass fixes the issue.

The bloodied sprites from mutations are more than likely the result of DamageOverlayAlpha not being set to 0 in the <Affliction>. It’s a simple fix, just find and replace damageoverlayalpha=“1” with damageoverlayalpha=“0”, or add damageoverlayalpha=“0” to each affliction causing it.
