Dragon Industries - Gas Compressor

Dragon Industries presents the newest solution to a common headache - running out of storage tanks for your gas while still having a half-dozen more tanks you want to drain so that you can grind them down - the Gas Compressor!

Gas compressors are basically gas tanks, with 8 to 16 times the capacity of the vanilla tanks...if you ignore all the extra requirements that come along with such capacity.

In order to achieve such capacity, the gas must be cooled and compressed so far that it condenses into a liquid, and then it must be kept cold so that it does not revaporize and rupture the container.

What this means from a usage standpoint is that these tanks have a significant idle power draw - on the order of a few megawatts - and a large power cost to actively pumping gas in or out, more than ten MW.

It also means that should that power supply fail...suffice to say that you will have a bad day. As you also will if a pressurized tank is disrupted in some way; you do not want to make the mistake of suddenly releasing a large quantity of pressurized, possibly explosive gas, by grinding or shooting a hole in the tank.
