A simplification of a simplification,the MP40 was a redesign of the MP38 to make it easier to mass produce.Safer than most submachine guns at the time,it suffered reliability problems,mainly related to the magazine,which wasn't meant to be used as a grip (german soldiers held it by the magazine hold,which is what i decided to go with).More than a million were produced during the war,as,when the Germans faced the PPSh armed infantry at Stalingrad,they decided to equip assault squads with them.The later developed StG44 was meant to replace both the MP40 and the Kar98.
