This tiny and relatively non-invasive mod replaces the Gateways introduced in Stellaris 2.0 with very shiny, very glowy, very animated and very enhanced with custom VFX Mass Relays from the Mass Effect Universe!


  • Gateways, both the inactive ones found throughout the galaxy and those buildable by regular empires later in the game, replaced with fully featured Mass Relay models created by Nessa of Team Nessassity!
  • A matching wormhole replacer (for primary-type relays) available separately! (This mod is still required)
  • All related fluff text has been adjusted accordingly (this only applies to the English localisation by default) so when you run across a dormant relay and go through the process of reactivating it, the events will make sense (as much as anything makes sense in either universe).
  • Best of all, this mod makes only minimal changes to the game and all of them are cosmetic! It does not alter or interfere with the actual behaviour of Gateways and does not override any files in the common\ directory. In theory, it should be compatible with Ironman and Achievements.



  • This mod overrides two vanilla files in gfx\models\ships\megastructures\gateway\: gateway.asset and gateway_portal.asset
  • It should be compatible out of the box with any custom shipsets unless they provide their own Gateway entities (in which case the shipset will take precedence)

@FenFenScreeScree: I'm afraid that's entirely dependent on how the vanilla tech tree is balanced currently. This mod doesn't affect any mechanics related to bypasses. It's all just renamed Wormholes and Gateways, so you are kinda... at the mercy of the tech tree RNG.

I cannot figure out for the life of me how to activate the relays. The technologies are not popping up in my research and i'm like... fully researched by this point.

IT'S 4.0 PATCH DAY @.@

Please keep in mind that most of our mods are going to be broken in many different, exciting and unpredictable ways until further notice! 4.0 is a huge base game update that shakes the foundations of the game and we have yet to fully test it and make adjustments.

We are working on compatibility updates as we speak, but it may take us a few days. We are hoping to release updates as soon as they are ready to go! Thank you for your patience <3

@Talia Sendua Ah ok. The mod i mentioned is the only one that I know of that does that.

Your best bet is to remove all of the mods your using and load them one at a time. A massive pain but really the only way to find out which one(s) is the problem.

@Talia Sendua I believe the mod your talking about is Mass Effect: Beyond the Relays which turns the Galaxy Map into the Mass Effect one with Primary and Secondary Relays for every system with a handful of that connect star clusters with the Primary's

@Talia Sendua: No, this mod does not have that capability. All it does is replace the graphics and names of Gateways.
You are most likely using a different mod that spawns a Gateway in every home system.

Is it intentional that this mod generates a Mass Relay in the starting system of each AI and player nation in game version 3.14?

@Senti: Hmm... could you elaborate please? There have been no major Stellaris patches since the last update so it should still be working. Are you perhaps using a custom shipset that has its own Gateway model? That's the only thing that comes to my mind that would conflict.
