Overflow Ability Points allows players to gain extra ability points in the late-game by bringing max rank soldiers on missions.

If you win a mission and there is at least one maximum-rank soldier, a dialog box will open at the end of the mission before the mission summary. By default, you will receive 2 Ability Points for every max rank soldier on the mission, but this is adjustable in the config files. Due to modding constraints, the AP is awarded to the shared XCOM pool rather than to the individual soldier pools.

Why did I make this mod? Because your Ability Point gains plateau in the late game after soldiers stop getting AP from promotions. And I'm one of those people who wants all my top soldiers to have all the key abilities on both sides of the tree before I attempt my modded-out-to-insanity Waterworld.

As for compatibility, any mods like Flawless that also open a textbox at the end of the mission are compatible. But if you have any mods installed like Musashi's RPG Overhaul that increases the maximum ranks beyond 7 (above Colonel), then this mod will be incompatible.

A big thanks to krj12 for his excellent Flawless mod, which I looked at to learn how to open a textbox on mission completion. Keep in mind, however, that this is my first time messing with UIScreenListeners so there may be some bugs I am not aware of. If you do encounter one, please report it in the comments immediately.

I kind of love that it awards to the pool.

It kind of feels like they're training the rookies, like they're so good at doing what they do they inherently "teach" by example, and in so doing, possibly improve their own skills past that level of expert into masterful.

For those of you looking for a version that works with LWOTC or RPGO, I've recompiled the mod with the 'max rank' changed from 7 to 8. I didn't reenable the config option for it based on previous comments here indicating it caused crashes and instability, but that shouldn't matter:

There is a compatibility issue with this mod. It looks for Major class (rank 7). It doesn't look for "the last rank". So if you have a mod that revamp classes by, among other things, adding a 8th rank, then your soldier will get additional AP at rank 7 (not the last rank) and stop getting any as soon as it reaches 8th rank.
Is the author going to update someday? Is someone going to find an "easy" file editing trick? Or is another modder willing to to re-do this mod by taking this fact into account? Good question...

For me at least I'm getting the points at rank 7 (gunnery sergeant) but they stop at rank 8 (master sergeant). After I'm finished with my current run I'll try switching the script file to rank 8. Config file option doesn't work anymore.

So the comments seem to vary here. So, what is the actual behavior here? If you have rank 8 soldiers, do they not give the bonus? Do you get the bonus at rank 7 and 8? Do they only get the bonus at rank 7? Do you not get the bonus at all? What is everyone's experience here?

There was the config option to adjust the max rang for rpgo like soldiers, its unused now tho :(

Nice idea, unsubscribed and reset my campaign as it doesn't work with brigadiers.
Shame, would've helped a lot with RPGO lol
