For anyone who still wants this, but wants it working with 1.5, you need to change how it applies the patch.

Select the mod in the mod list, and then Advanced > Open Folder. In here route to Patches and open the .xml in your text editor of choice

Locate and change the following:
Class="PatchOperationInsert" to Class="PatchOperationReplace" (line 5)
/Defs/ThingDef[@Name="ThingBaseFox"]/race/predator to /Defs/ThingDef[@Name="ThingBaseFox"]/race/maxPreyBodySize (line 6)

Save this file. Then go to the root folder for the mod > About and edit about.xml to include
<supportedVersions><li>1.5</li></supportedVersions> under the <url></url> elements.

The previous version simply added the element onto foxes, but it seems they now already have it (set to 0.5 by default), and this mod was adding the element again, causing the exception.

They kind of are, but alright.

A fine mod. More choice is always good, and there is a special place in heaven for all modders. But I'll be taking on the role of The Devils Advocate here for a bit, if you don't mind..

In Rimworld, foxes weighs 38.5kg.. In real life they weigh MAX 14kg. (2.2 - 14kg according to wiki) 14kg is the utter extreme tho - They average about 6kg.
Given their MUCH bigger body-mass, I think it sorta' makes sense for them to hunt bigger creatures than they do in real life.

Generally animals in Rimworld are much more massive than their real world counterparts. I think this is intentional, since it is the future and the animals have evolved.
In real life horses, cows, pigs and other animals have also gotten bigger over time. (This is of course because of selective breeding, but in Rimworld it seems to have been the general trend.) It also makes them more worthwhile to hunt, so I'm sure balancing has something to do with it as well.

@ThatGuyFromThatPlace That's a good idea. You're right: Foxes are opportunistic and more omnivore than carnivore.

So, in addition to fixing it so it works again, the new version (below) also changes their diet to make them omnivores and egg-eaters.

I've just uploaded an updated version for 1.0 here:
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1557098112
Hemlock 10. okt. 2018 kl. 23:35
I'd like this to be updated
Also, ffs, make them omnivores
Whoever decided that they should be considered carnivores is an idiot
Foxes IRL prefer to eat meat as its healthier for them, but can very much eat berries and fruits
Candalf the Waxy 3. okt. 2018 kl. 11:45
update pls but no pressure
gamer nerd 30. sep. 2018 kl. 14:59
is this gonna be update dto B19?
Hedos0 16. feb. 2018 kl. 10:55
waiting on b18
iamzid 30. nov. 2017 kl. 8:26
well i turned the mod on and my game seems to be working fine. i spawned a fox into the middle of town and lowerd it's food to 0% and it ran out of town to kill a rabit. you may or may not want to do more testing but i think that the mod is safe and still working as intended.
Miggle 24. nov. 2017 kl. 19:28
Would love for this to be updated. Hugely helps with immersion/annoyance.
Catato 22. nov. 2017 kl. 18:08
Will this mod be updated?
2much 27. juli 2017 kl. 14:03
Hmm, attacking my puppies is suicidal :).
Thundercraft  [ophavsmand] 16. juli 2017 kl. 15:00
Yeah, in real life, a fox can barely hurt an adult human. Here's a video of a trapped, very upset, gray fox. The guy is trying to release it, but gets bitten on the hand. It runs away the moment it is no longer trapped. And it barely broke the skin on his hand.

On a rimworld, You can lose both your legs to a single fox in less than a minute.
Realism.
Doc Savage 3. juli 2017 kl. 22:49
Rabid small critter isn't paying too much attention to what it's trying to slash and bite. We're on a world full of danger stuff & psychic drones & fire from the sky & all the pawns worry about is being petty & childish & who's bedrooms are too pretty.
In that scenario I can't say that rabid or unnatural animal behavior occuring in animals is out of the realm of possibility. Drones constantly disrupt normal brain patterns here, & who knows what's in the invisible, non existant water.
Doc Savage 3. juli 2017 kl. 22:49

I will say I find the smaller critters incredibly annoying. The damage they do is WAY too high. I'd actually prefer a mod that has realistic damage but adds a possibility of rabies or whatever caused the animals to go nuts that needs treating rather than just eliminate the tiny animal brain snaps.
If you keep pawn clothes nice (less open area), wear a duster etc the chance of being bitten is far less. Far more "realistic" than assuming we stumbled upon "Earth that was" & all the litle animals just don't do that sort of thing..
Urist Hejbrüs 2. juli 2017 kl. 10:20
fucking furries
Leafshade 2. juli 2017 kl. 3:58
Because giant buffalo are already a thing, and beavers eating trees doesn't really have any issues in nature, but a species that essentially commits suicide is logistically improbable.
Cisarulana 30. juni 2017 kl. 10:41
Its an alien planet with giant buffalos and beavers that eat every single tree of your world.
How can it not be realistic if foxes are aggressive?
JR-E.MatiECPUPro 30. juni 2017 kl. 10:09
maybe make a next mod about aggressive animals. When its winter, instead of moving, they stay and eat your colonists and its fucking annoying. I would thank u so much if u do this for me and other players with the same problem
The Word-Mule 30. juni 2017 kl. 10:06
All of the Earth animals are canonically from the colony ship in orbit, just like you. They are not "rimworld" foxes.
AdmiralTigerclaw 30. juni 2017 kl. 9:32
I think it's perfectly reasonable to say that the foxes aren't super murder-critters. In my opinion, if the excuse is 'well, they're RIMWORLD Foxes', then the problem isn't that they're some genetic super fox, it's that the devs were lazy about making hostile murder-critters or are busy with other game features. I can accept that. Doesn't require some kind of crazy excuse to be perpetuated by the players. Want murder critters? Subscribe to an alien critters mod. Want foxes that don't act like some subspecies that isn't actually a fox? Subscribe to this. Problem solved.

Also Thrumbos are a thing. Why be concerned with foxes when there are these 300 HP every body part murderbeasts popping up from time to time?

This mod gives me everything but what I really want to know.....

What did they say?
Bobbanz 30. juni 2017 kl. 3:59
Dude Thundercraft remember that the foxes in rimworld are alienish since they are on another planet and i dont think they evolved there and flew to earth probally they are from rimworld or whatever the "planet" is called never mind there is colonists on rimworld and considering the high tech humans have in the rimworld universe and they probally have ftl tech or not cause they use cyropods they probally had a science team go to the planet and colonize it probally.

Yellow Ranger 30. juni 2017 kl. 2:22
does this mod change is an animel goes crazy and attacks your people or if a man hunter pack stricks ? because i have had man hunter packs of foxes and that was crary like 80 foxes trying to kill my 5 people
Thundercraft  [ophavsmand] 30. juni 2017 kl. 1:48
@ glassofwater
I didn't realize that other animals acted crazy like that. I can't promise anything, but, in light of what you said, I'd like to make a mod like that. Though, I've got several other mods in development ATM.
Krypt 30. juni 2017 kl. 1:47
No, it is not about your mod, it is about foxes is not accually that suicidal in first place :)
Rimworld foxes ARE able to kill a pawn.
Thundercraft  [ophavsmand] 30. juni 2017 kl. 1:43
@Krypt
To make sure that I'm understanding correctly: Are you saying that, even with this mod, you had a colonist attacked by an Arctic Fox?
Krypt 30. juni 2017 kl. 1:40
You underestimating rimworld fox' abilities. I had a colonist successefully hunted by arctic fox. :(
sudokek 30. juni 2017 kl. 0:12
Please make a general overhaul for all small animals that attack. I've been attacked cross map by a rat, squriell(sp), turtles, deer, etc. While yes, these would make the game easier, it simply doesn't happen. If the creatures were renamed and not intended to simulate the real life counter parts, it wouldn't matter as much.
RatBeege 30. juni 2017 kl. 0:05
This is a cool mod but makes the game easier not harder so i can not have this
MIKE BURNA 29. juni 2017 kl. 23:18
Great mod. I feel ya brother. But wait, is that your artwork?
Thundercraft  [ophavsmand] 29. juni 2017 kl. 23:04
From looking at the game's code, it seems that foxes are more dangerous than they should be. They have about half the mass (or baseBodySize) of the Labrador Retriever. Even so, foxes do 7 scratch damage and 8 bite damage, compared to the Labrador's 7 scratch damage and 9 bite damage.
The IRS 29. juni 2017 kl. 20:38
I once had my best colonist killed by a fox. Then a raid appears. Long story short is the fox basically killed my base.:steamfacepalm:
SumYungGuy 29. juni 2017 kl. 17:31
Bear in mind that Rimworld is a place where there are man-eating squirrels who are a serious threat to your eyes.

Thumbs up!

I approve of this mod. "Leeani is being attacked by red fox"

WHY?!
Dr. Quackers M.D. 27. juni 2017 kl. 13:34
Yes more tweak mods like this please the list of minor issues like this in rimworld is huge!
Martin Harris 27. juni 2017 kl. 10:18
Okay...
Thundercraft  [ophavsmand] 27. juni 2017 kl. 9:25
Actually, the art is a compilation of public domain clipart. But the concept was mine. I did a bit of editing, too.

I love the art style, did you do it yourself?
