groundDeaccel should be changed back to default, it just makes you slippery

does this fix the speed of diagonal movement being sooo much faster than forward/backward/left/right movement?

nice

Great mod.

An aside: I wonder if there's a way to somehow lower the amount of lean Turok makes when moving? That combined with how low he is seems to make me kind of motion sick in this game.

No, thank you @rdg. I honestly didn't think people would still be playing this a whole year and a half later, especially when the Doom version got more popular.
rdg 21 aug. 2018 la 14:35
This really makes the platforming more enjoyable, while at the same time it keeps the challenge! Thank you

i see the "lag" as momentum. I like it. in turok 2, the issue was the framerate and total shittyness of performance overall.

volcanic_lightning, Thank for info! Subscribing...
Kev The Galaxybender 12 apr. 2018 la 16:48
this is an excellent mod
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 12 apr. 2018 la 15:20
@vodkins: Of course is does. All this mod does is modify the player's acceleration and deceleration times (see 3rd screenshot).
vodkins 12 apr. 2018 la 9:54
Does it works with rebound controls keys too?
jet 6 ian. 2018 la 18:30
Ya this mod makes a huge improvement on controls. Dont let the 3 star rating deceive you.
spiritusdundukus 25 nov. 2017 la 11:41
ty!
Francisè von Spitroast 3 iul. 2017 la 18:20
Cheers, will do just that.
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 3 iul. 2017 la 14:27
You're welcome. If you're anything like me, the reason you took issues with the controls is because moving forwards and backwards is much laggier than strafing. I had that problem with Turok for years until the remaster came out in 2015 and finally let me fix one of the biggest issues I had. It's also worth noting that Night Dive fixed the controls for Turok 2, which originally had even worse controls than the first game!

I had an update for this mod which slowed down the swimming movement (same as in the Doom controls mod), but Steam posts it as a separate mod instead of updating this page. Remember that to load this mod, you have to subscribe, launch the "Editor & Mod Loader", and select "Enhanced Movement Controls" from the list of subscribed mods.

Thank you so much. The controls are my main issue with this game. I haven't tried it out yet, ut in theory this sounds amazing.

well i threw you another positive to help the cause
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 14 iun. 2017 la 18:44
Wow, the Steam Workshop ratings system makes no sense. This mod has 85% positive ratings (22) and 15% negative (4), yet it only shows 3 stars which will scare away future downloaders. Shouldn't 85% equal 4 1/2 stars, not 3?
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 10 apr. 2017 la 16:31
That's part of the engine and I can't do anything about it. Jumping stops all momentum unlike in an IDTech engine game. Also, strafing and running forward is meant to do that. It's a common bug in older FPS games called Straferunning. Here's a good technical explanation for Doom:

In this remastered edition, they even teach you how to do it in the last part of the tutorial.

Funny thing is, I actually had an update for this mod that fixed the swimming controls and I tried to upload it. It made a mistake and registered it as a separate mod, though, so I have to leave this outdated version up. None of the 371 subscribers would see the newer version, and deleting this old version without warning would be a total dick move. I hate the Steam Workshop so much...
hipshot 10 apr. 2017 la 13:04
Thanks, I didn't see this tab over there, a little confusing. Anyway, I still have a little slowdown when I land after a jump and when I press strafe and forward I feel like a run a lot faster, but these things might not have been fixed by the mod, or perhaps I actually never loads correctly?
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 7 apr. 2017 la 17:58
When you click play, there should be two options: "play game" and "play editor and mod loader". Choose the editor and mod loader and select the Workshop items tab. You should see a list of all your subscribed mods. Simply click on "Enhanced Movement Controls" and then click on the play icon to start the game with this mod loaded.

You can load multiple mods at the same time by holding down control and clicking each mod to highlight them.

Hey buddy. So I subscribed to the mod, how do I activate it? Or should it be activated from the start?
sleepy boye 16 febr. 2017 la 15:13
Thanks, mate. To anyone else reading, it's the game.kpf file in the main Turok: Dinosaur Hunter directory in steamapps, and you have to open it with something like 7-zip.
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 15 febr. 2017 la 21:33
@Balls Deep In Awful: "player.txt" is located in game/defs/actors.
sleepy boye 14 febr. 2017 la 12:57
Where is the "player.txt" file that you edited?

UPDATE 1/14/2017: Added 2 extra screenshots to clarify the functionality of this mod as well as its compatibility with Turok+.

I know I've seen some of you guys around here who didn't bother reading the description. This update goes out to all of you.
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 14 ian. 2017 la 16:45
However, it is possible to achieve some sort of bunnyhopping if you continously jump on the surface of the water. Jumping in water retains momentum for some reason. There's no constant increase in speed like in the Quake series, though.
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 14 ian. 2017 la 16:40
@no_legs: Unfortunately no, bunnyhopping would not be possible in Turok without a complete rewrite of the game's source code.

In Turok, you lose all momentum upon landing from a jump. With vanilla physics, this makes jumping around very stiff and imprecise. With the Enhanced Movement Controls mod, you accelerate much faster so you can easily jump from platform to platform without needing to constantly re-align yourself. It's still faster to Straferun than to keep jumping, though.
pidward 14 ian. 2017 la 9:15
bunnyhopping?

Good job. Thanks for the mod.
MuscularMelvin  [autor] 11 ian. 2017 la 15:56
Thank you for the compliment. When I first played Turok on PC about 6 years ago, I was always annoyed that moving forward felt so laggy compared to strafing. I always judge an FPS' controls by how smoothly and consistently I can move in a circle with WSAD.

In vanilla, it feels more like moving left and right while inching forwards and backwards. This mod finally fixes that and gives full 360 degree movement like in all the best FPS games.

Nice to bring a new mod!
