The mod isn't dead in the water, now that I am back to modding I should have a fix soon.

This is what happens when you are helping someone with their mod and have to update your mod because they are using the same code. We will have a fix later today or tomorrow though, rest assured.
Please understand that while making the item craftable might be seen as a viable option from a gameplay perspective; from a lore perspective with this character it is not viable. The garden of shadows are meant to be placed around the world. Do not worry; I have a slight fix incoming for this I believe.
The door and the portal come to mind. If you can figure out how they get that to spawn, having only one in the middle of the world would be an acceptable trade-off so that we don't get one per square inch.
Either that, or just make it a craftable structure.
I have tested it over and over, every single time there were gardens every 10-20 seconds or so, they are about as common as carrots, which is far too much.
To get around this and still let darkoh play the character, I've had to generate the world without the mod enabled, then enable it and spawn one in.
This is on a dedicated server, fyi.
also you mention to keep an eye on health, however nothing happens when changed.
That depends on world generation really. Sometimes there will be a large amount, sometimes there won't be.
