This is a good Mod, but if you want the Arabs to be able to make a Mosque while you build a Greek style Church, try the "Independent Architecture" version of his Mod, called [IA] Byzantine monastery
✝ Gamlingwine 18. sep. 2020 kl. 12:11
I think that could be done with aoe2 DE's engine. The renaissance italian church has to go too.
Jörgil Kuttaperkka 18. sep. 2020 kl. 8:32
Hopefully some day in the far future this mod can be modified so that only byzantines are affected.

better to see my monastery as Agia Sophia and also muslims having the same, rather than seeing myself building a mosque.
besides muslims stole many Ortho churches in real life and made them mosques.

BEGOME ORDODOX :DDDDDD
Emetann  [ophavsmand] 25. feb. 2018 kl. 23:48
It has been published as independant architecture mod compatible so it can fullfill your wish. Be aware that having various architecture mods does significantly affect your FPS
Kir_StefanDusan 25. feb. 2018 kl. 5:20
This mod is great, but problem is that it affects Saracens and Persians, so that mosques are replaced with Orth churches.

11/10 my Orthodox monks have stopped declaring jihad on the Franks

To DalekDan Do YOUR RESEARCH PLZ! i know im replying roughly a year later, i havent seen the reply on my comment. btw, i have never ever heard of the Byzantines using clay and sandbrick coloured architecture. You do know that the cultural CENTER of the Byzantine empire was Greece and Anatolia right? Go and look for yourself. All Typical ancient, medieval, and modern, Greek buildings are all white bricked, red roofed buildings. just like 90 % of the 'Italian' building set the hypocrite devs made. You talk about the eastern and north african provinces of the Empire, in which indeed the Byzantines had some middle eastern influence in their architecture, but not as much to completely replace Greco-Roman architecture. Look at pictures of Constantinople: All red roofed, white bricked buildings. Not a single Arab like building. Im a Greek, i know what im talking about.
Mirazh_37 11. maj 2017 kl. 1:36
Better add a cross on top of the monastery, and btw where did you get the texture from? Kinda reminds me of something else in the game :/

Ooooh, I did not know that!

Hmm, would you be willing to make a single player version? Only if you feel like it of course, but this is a lovely graphic and yeah, I'm one of those "the Byzantines having a mosque is weird" type people, but I don't want the traditionally Islamic civs to lose their mosques either.

Thank you in any event!
Emetann  [ophavsmand] 29. dec. 2016 kl. 4:35
I haven't done the data mod bud, otherwise it wouldn't be multiplayer compatible anymore

Just going to say this:
Mosque are based upon Byzantine Churches.
daniel14946 24. dec. 2016 kl. 11:25
Data mods are supported again with the new patch. Would you be willing to update this so only the Byzantines can get this monastery?
Birthday Boii 27. nov. 2016 kl. 13:03
Yes, the Arab building style definitely does not fit with the actual Byzantine style, but it is the closest especially compared to those sets of the Italians and Franks (the Byzantines despised and found themselves so different from the Western Europeans that they called all of them Franks, just like the successive Crusade-era Arabs did), but the reason why I think the devs originally did it was for ease and to have a balance in the number of civs with each architecture sets in the orginal 1.0c version.
Birthday Boii 27. nov. 2016 kl. 13:03
Agreeing with DalekDan, Byzantine structures drew their influences and in turned influenced Arabic architecture and had lots of basis in Ancient Roman architecture, key word "ancient." This style included curved arches, red brick and beige to light gray limestone, ancient recipes for concrete (mostly conglomerate), marble, gold, corinthian columns, domes...the list goes on. These parts are distinct from medieval Western European square shaped, dark stoned colored structures with their gothic arches and flying butresses.
DAL3KDAN 24. sep. 2016 kl. 16:18
@Manousos - Do your research (google byzantine architecture). Byzantine architecture is totally separate from western roman (later italian) architecture which was influenced by gothic and frankish styles. Byzantine architecture by contrast influenced arab and slavic styles (hense the original devs lumping them together) and was near unformly sand and clay brick coloured. From its outer walls to its residental areas to its grand cathedral(s), nothing ever looked anying like the italian style.
Greek Warrior 5. maj 2016 kl. 0:21
That guy Warsmithy, is really developing some great buildings for the Byzantines, but im sorry, the buildings look way too sandy and clay like. Trust me, the most historically accurate building set fot the Byzantines, is the Italian one. No arguments. Only the new monastery what Emetann has made, is more than enough to mix it with the Italian building set, and we are done!!!
Greek Warrior 5. maj 2016 kl. 0:17
The monastery is beautiful Emetann. As talented as you are i have a request, would you like to make an entire new byzantine building set for the medieval Greeks, to change it with the current disgusting Middle Eastern one?. And if its not possible, change it with the Italian building set instead?!.

TauroAdventures 18. apr. 2016 kl. 19:16
welll you update to have this monastery only replace whit the Byzanthine Monastery?
Medve 15. apr. 2016 kl. 5:17
Thanks @Grandmaster of the Templars and @Emetann for the answer, hopefully one day it will be posible.
Emetann  [ophavsmand] 15. apr. 2016 kl. 4:30
Indians have an encoded separated set, as a new civ in the expansion, it's wasn't linked to the previous arabs ones. So it's not possible for the rest of the civs
Grandmaster of the Templars 11. apr. 2016 kl. 11:21
There might actually be a way to set it for only the Byzantine civ because Cysion's Indian texture mod only replaces the Indian build set.
Grandmaster of the Templars 11. apr. 2016 kl. 11:09
Civilizations share build sets, only the Italian civ has a unique one of their own.
So unfortunately not @Krisz @DylanHK02
Medve 4. apr. 2016 kl. 5:24
Is it not posible to change to look for only the Byz?
Ugandan Bruce Lee 4. mar. 2016 kl. 16:50
yea, italian architecture would be great, since they are greek-italian
A Servant 20. feb. 2016 kl. 13:51
could you please make a mod that either gives the Byzantines Italian architecture or their own architecture thank you

天使 31. jan. 2016 kl. 23:28
Johannes Tzimiskes 28. jan. 2016 kl. 3:30
very good
Dranon Xaruz 27. jan. 2016 kl. 15:48
Good.
The Smudgie Buggler 25. jan. 2016 kl. 14:23
I agree! it would make the game so much more realistic and that much more awesome to play.
cacb 11. jan. 2016 kl. 20:34
I hope they do, there is just a treasure trove of opportunities for modding
Zevlag 11. jan. 2016 kl. 8:03
@CAC-Boomerang: You are right, the Spanish architecture is another example, it has the northwestern european architecture like British and Celts. Culturally, Spanish are much closer to Portuguese and Italian, so the Spanish need that mediterranean architecture. I've read somewhere that the developers have plans to enable data mods in a future, so civs like Byzantines, Huns and Spanish would be able to have a different architecture.
cacb 11. jan. 2016 kl. 0:19
I mean, some civs are just crying out for their own architecture. The Incan's wonder look nothing like their building set and for good reason; Central American architecture just isn't the same as South American. Also I noticed that the new AK architecture is only really based off Malian architecture and doesn't make too much sense (especially the monasteries) for the ethiopians use it.
It's just a shame to think that you can't change this, if that's what you mean
cacb 11. jan. 2016 kl. 0:12
Oh... so the Indians are the only civ that can me modded for architecture? No other civs can be modified uniquely?
Emetann  [ophavsmand] 10. jan. 2016 kl. 12:43
Only the Indians have a separated datas when it comes to the architecture sets. Other are totally shared. Otherwise it touches the data and won't be multiplayer compatible
cacb 10. jan. 2016 kl. 10:00
I really like this mod. My only criticism is that it replaces all the monasteries of actual middle eastern civs to this, only really reversing the whole wrong religion problem.

Is the way it works that texture packs for buildings are assigned to civs, and thus to make a monastery Byzantines exclusive you'd basically have to copy the middle-eastern pack, change just the monastery to the Byzantine one and assign the Byzantines to use it?
Jägermeister 5. jan. 2016 kl. 13:57
@Emetann: anyway to get that architecture working?
Zevlag 2. jan. 2016 kl. 14:19
@Emetann: That Byzantine architecture is amazing. I hope it could be an official mod, like the Indian architecture set.
Emetann  [ophavsmand] 30. dec. 2015 kl. 5:43
For everyone who are as much fan of the Byzantines and really into mods, I would recommend to stil encourage this guy, who is making an entire Byzantine architecture, just look how nice it looks: http://aok.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=st&fn=9&tn=44098&f=0,0,0,0&st=0
