I can't seem to figure out how to use this mod. Every time I create a campfire, it just says 'add fuel' instead of 'ignite' whenever I try to use a match on it.

А смысл? Есть же факел, он лучше, чем спички. Поэтому спички имеет смысл выдавать новым персонажам при старте. И в качестве побочного эффекта они становятся раритетом. Если будет рецепт, то это будет, как обычный факел, только хуже.

добавь возможность создавать коробок спичек например рецепт (2 угля 2 папируса и 5 веток) либо добавь в настройках конфигурации мода от 3 до 4 столбцов для выбора 1 тип ресурса ( любые топливные ресурсы 1 категории(маленькие предметы) + количества данных ресурсов в столбце макс значение пусть (выбор автора)

Why sucks? It's not a weapon like a blunt or sword. That's why it's just an item that you can use for its purpose.

Also it's some kind of challenge (like Kindling Fire). I imagine that matches are very rare in the middle of the game. For example, new player joins... Save us, new player! It's not so interesting if it will be craftable.

It's not easy in wild nature. There is no sulfur in the game. And it's not just a sulfur. If you read wikipedia, you'll see that twigs + sulfur = torch (in 1366), not a match. It is called "a match" in wikipedia but actually it's a torch and it needs existing fire. Matches are much more complicated and difficult to produce. There are only 4.2% of sulfur in real matches, also KClO3, SiO2, Pb3O, ZnO, K2Cr2O7.

Main idea of the mod (ignoring existence of Kindling Fire mod) is to give newbies easy fire at start. For example in winter or if they join the server at deep night.

Чтобы пользовались с умом, спичек должно быть мало и выдаваться они должны ограниченное число раз (желательно единожды). Сделай 2-3 спички на коробок в настройках.

Why you need recipe if there is torch in game? Main idea of this item is to give it as starting inventory. And there are options so you can set it limited.

No. It is given at start of the game. So it is very rare. But you actually don't need it at the middle of the game. It helps for newbies. Also it could be additional challenge if you change torch mechanics.
