That is a mystery. The only thing I can imagine that would cause that is if you opened the flying spirals with the wrench tool to look at their values, which would set them to 0.

Do other file-edited machines not work for you? Many of the machines on here were built using mods or file editing, so it seems like this problem would be better known if it affected all machines built outside of the game's normal parameters.

I've read that there's a glitch that if you click too many times when loading a Steam Workshop machine, it causes the machine to spawn twice, which makes it explode. That might be the problem.

I do what I want

I set the speeds of the flying spirals to negative values by directly editing the machine's bsg file. But since negative values aren't normally allowed, if you look at them in build mode, the game automatically sets them to the closest allowed value, which is 0.

So make sure not to look at edited values in build mode, because that undoes my editing and makes the machine not work anymore.
