The names of various churches, and the titles of priests, are based off the size of the areas they service, so an Abbey serves an area with less people than a Cathedral, but more than a church, and so on.

Thank you for lightening the building. I always thought was an abbey for monks, and the church for the priest. Maybe I'm wrong.

Dear RazorFox,
The most common term for a large church that is close to being a cathedral but not quite as large is an Abbey (the keeper of which would be called an Abbot)
