Photon is designed to add very realistic behavior to cars, which comes at a cost because it's very intensive both in terms of labor and in terms of FPS. VCMod takes a different approach that offers better performance and is able to add good support for almost every vehicle in the game. Free and I have many mutual friends who are fans of both.
If you like VCMod more, you can use VCMod and bash Photon to your heart's desire, just don't put words in my mouth :)
My bottom line is this: this particular release demonstrates the whole idea. It takes the work of talented people like Blake, Sen, TDM and SuperMighty (along with all the modelers of the lightbars) and packages it as its own thing. Run VCMod along with it and you reach full circle.
