As an experiment I created a 1993 version of this for myself: VHS tapes and period accurate comics, games, cell phones and computers. Only problem is I had to turn the laptop into a ThinkPad with a VCR built into it haha. So if anyone's looking to create a version for themselves, watch out for that. It's pretty funny.

I also turned down distribution because geek culture wasn't quite as mainstream in 1993. I wish I could incorporate the mod into Accurate Z - it has really good zombie demographics.

So this mod hasn't been updated in almost 4 years now.. does it still work on B41 stable?

I really like this mod but holy hell it's anachronistic. It would be cool if you could update it to remove smartphones and tablets. For now I just play with it and pretend those items aren't there.

@KrispyPixel in the 90s nearing the later end we had gigantic cell phones. Really when I go back and see them I'm astonished. Now in the mid 2000s we started getting some flip phones coming out eventually. I do so miss the 90s....

The only problem I have with this mod idea is that, I grew up in the 90s (the game's setting) and we didn't have smartphones or tablets back then. I can't remember if we had laptops, but I don't think we did. Flip-phones with solitaire or minesweeper on them however? Passable. I don't really recall flip-phones until the 2000s however. The cordless phones in the game are essentially what the first cell phones actually looked like, and those didn't have screens. Perhaps if this mod gets updated, replace those non-90s gadgets with handhelds. There were quite a few out there, even little single-game ones made by Disney. I used to play the heck out of my Little Mermaid one.

The problem with some of these items are that they are far older than the 1990's AD. That breaks immersion. Tablets did not exist, laptops were heavy and bulky, and, in the early nineties, cell phones and supporting equipment were put into duffle bags and carried like a brief case.

Furthermore, depending on the year, you would have the Game Boy Color or original Game Boy instead of the Game Boy Advance. The Gamecube would be either the Super Nintendo Entertainment System or the Nintendo Sixty-Four. You got the headphones right.

I can't download this Mod because of its anachronisms. I hope that you will consider fixing them!

@Octo they don't, at the time I originally made the mod it wasn't possible. Right now I can't make the models myself but hopefully I'll figure it out or get some help with that soon.

So, uh, do swords have their own 3d models? When I use the Replica Sword it uses baseball bat's 3d model.

Worlda been better with a snes or maybe an old machintosh. Place near TV and power on the SNES for entertainment. Or... Just use the computer and play that new 'Doom' game that just came out. It is 1993 after all.

Not sure @Scyoni is still working on this, but there is a bug with the Mineshaft game which duplicates itself when you play it (it has been reported below). The fix is quite simple, it's just a comma missing in the recipe.

I love this mod, but I feel like I find stuff like swords way too often. Out of everyone I know well, I am the only person who owns a sword, and mine's made out of wood, yet I manage to find swords at least as often as baseball bats.

The game takes place in 1993. Most of the stuff from the third thumbnail didn't exist back then.

Im not sure how to get the dice to work?

Also,Mineshaft is bugged. Keeps duplicating whenever you play it.

@Madman_Andre you can set the date of your game world, so it just depends on what time period you want to roleplay.

Pretty cool concept for a mod, I think. Although technically it's a bit immersion breaking. Keep in mind when Zomboid is set(specifically the early 1990's), so many of the items featured here literally didn't exist yet and wouldn't for a decade or more(tablet PCs, smartphones, most portable game systems, etc.) Regardless, downloaded.

I found this a really fun mod to have in the game, especially with the new manga. I just have a few questions that I hope won't take too much of your time:

1) Where are the best places to look for the dvds and video games in this mod? I have no problem finding Manga since Zeds usually carry them as well as phones and sometimes tablets. Computers and games I can sometimes find in houses.

2) Could you provide a total listof items you created in the mod? Itwould be nice to have a checklist of sorts since I'm the type that likes to collect things in the game.

3) This isn't a question so much as letting you know that the dice doesn't seem to work inthe game (though it's still fun to collect since I like the sprites for it

Mostly because I had no feedback on spawn rates :P But I'll take that into consideration for the next update! Also as far as I know there's currently no way to add new models in mods (I think someone's working on an import script of sorts, but that's a whole other thing) so you'll have to deal with the bat-sword for now - sorry!

You should make the swords WAY less common than they are, make the the decorative swords have incredibly low durability (since they are just replicas) and if you can give them a model ingame please do, I hate seeing that bat used as a shotgun, it make my unfinished game seem even more unfinished. Great mod, I just dont know why every single person before the apocalypse was a katana wielding geek.

To everyone who was asking if you could do anything with the tech: NOW YOU CAN! :D Charge up devices you find using battery packs to watch movies, play games, and listen to music.

(Also fixed a bug where items weren't spawning.)

You should add books, that give scenarios for the dice and whatnot, if at all possible.

The dice are the only 'usable' ones right now - other than the obvious weaponry and the books. The tech items you can dismantle for electronics skill but they have no other use currently.

can u use the tablet? for like reading. or the cable for like hooking up lights and what not? are any of the items in this mod useable and if so can u list witch ARE useable? plz
