Our Two Handed Great Sword is the biggest sword we make.

Oh I see, lol. I don't play dark souls so I have no connection to the weapon so I was confused
AnonymousCheese  [ophavsmand] 18. feb. 2016 kl. 16:42
yeah, when I first made it, it was meant to be a less practical weapon, something you'd see come out of Dark souls. I've picked up HEMA since then, so I know entirely where you're coming from :P

Honesty, that looks extremely heavy and painfull to weild. Doesn't look very functional

Ha! I knew it.

I was very inspired by Gwyn's sword

Any connection to Gwyn's sword from dark souls??

Make the cross-guard wider and I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Good stuff. :masoneagle:

you should maybe make the blade a bit thinner but on the whole a very nice sword and helm, good job!

One thing to keep in mind when making swords,is that players like to be able to identify the weapon they are fighting against. When you use games like Dark Souls for reference you veer towards the fantasy. Try using real life reference, and if you want to make a sword that's original ,mix and match parts of different weapons you like to construct your weapon. While fantasy weapons look cool, they lack the real world functionality that leads to the design. The claymore is a good example. The sword guard points outward ,so if a knight wielding a claymore stops an opponents sword with the sword guard, the opponent needs to pull upwards and away to attack the person with the claymore, giving the person with the claymore the initiative to counter attack. A weapons shape is no accident.

Listen to Oilystool he knows his stuff, :D except for the impracticle blade size, i love realistic swords a lot but i also like the Dark Souls vibe of this sword. And being this open for criticsm is awesome.:axesword:

Thanks for the advice guys, as someone who's still pretty new to all this stuff, it's good to get help from people with a bit more experience. I guess the reason the sword looks more impractical by the way is a lot of my inspiration came from a few weapons in Dark souls, which generally look more like giant blugioning sticks than swords, so I wanted to have something similar I could use in this game, albeit I do understand it's quite an impractical weapon and most likely wouldn't fit into the universe in hindsight.

6. Lastly I seem to see some sort of decorative elements on the blade. Consider darkening the parts that indent. Armor makes in medieval times would apply a darkening agent to the negative parts of decoration they made to make it pop out more. Consider doing the same for yours.

Don't let criticism of your weapon discourage you ,with practice you can easily improve and make a weapon players are willing to buy.

Good luck

4. Your diffuse is very likely too bright and lacking detail. It looks mostly like color. One mistake artist makes with metal is to make the diffuse really light. Because then when you apply a spec to it, it multiplies the effect and makes it too bright. Also try to use a base metal photo source as a base so it isn't just color. Below is a link with a diffuse I made along with a specular to give you an idea of how I go about making metal.

@Anon It's good to see more people creating content for the workshop. I would like to offer you a little critique to improve upon your sword building techniques.

1. The shape of the sword is too thick. Something is massive would be impossible to swing. I recommend using the model TB uses as a size guard for your sword. That will help you make a blade/sword that seems more believe able .

2. The point of the sword is too rounded. It's supposed to stab as well an as it is it feels like a children's sword.

3.Your blade seems to use one smoothing group,so the blade comes off as blobby and it lacks a sharpened edge. No idea what package you use to model. But consider adding different smoothing groups to the blade so it appears that it has a sharpened edge.

I apologize for my crude response towards your work here but truely it made me laugh. I laughed at how out of place it was, not by it's quality. I don't wish to offend you but the blade seems VERY out of place when it comes to this game and a bit impractical to be honest. I know you made this out of love for C:MW but unfortunately if this ever gets accepted you need to understand this will be going up for the consumer market (aka this community) so you need to try and suit your work towards that market as best you can in order to appeal to them and get your work into the game and sold. I realize this is only my view on the matter but I wish to only inform and see what you'll do with the criticism you recieve form me and others who share the same concern. Best of luck and hope you do well friend. :spiffo:

Thanks for the criticism, I just did some changes to give the blade a sharper and more metalic look. Would like to hear about any other issues you might have with it.
Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen 9. juli 2015 kl. 2:50
It should look sharper and more metal it looks like plastic then it would be a yes for me:axesword:
