We've found an extremely cheesy solution.

That's very close to what I had intended, but harder. The solution I had in mind was stacking the cubes up on the button with the first and third cubes on the bottom, then use portals to press the respawn buttons for the first and third cubes so that the second one drops onto the button.

I assure you, it is solvable. I would record a demo, but I'm currently not at home, and won't be for a few weeks. I can give you a hint if you ask though. :)
