@Scotland Tom It's hidden right now. Have to do some testing before I unhide it. https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?edit=true&id=2943589527

@Angelhearth - Yes, totally! Publish it! I'm always happy to see what other people create. I'm so glad you've enjoyed the map!
I have edited this map and added a lot of stuff. A local railroad with stations (except 1 to be placed so the line icon activates). Several highway exits. Several roads to the highland. 2 more outside connections for the highways and train. A fully functional dam delivering 1600MW. Several service buildings already placed. It's meant to be played on all 81 tiles. Is it ok that I publish it? Why I did it? Because I think this map still is one of the best ever made.

Are there any map themes that go especially well with this?
GOOD!
Map looks great. But I just tried making a city on it and every road wants to either make a tunnel or make a bridge and i got frustrated.
Nice map thanks
Quacky 2020
As someone who grew up in the Powhatan areas of Virginia, good job. This map makes me homesick a bit.

You did a great job by making this map. Kudos to you :D

As soon as I built the trainstation, the passenger trains start to arrive :)

Here is two screenshot of my city:

Good to hear that the train connections should be fine. I will build a couple of train stations and see what happens. I like the map very much. Like sffc says, the rivers are not so big. I have built a dam across the valley thats generate up to 700 MW and a little dam a bit downstream that generates up to 190 MW.

I can post a screenshot later :)
Thanks again for this map! Wow, my last comment was over a year ago, and I'm still building the same city! :steamhappy: I'm getting really close to the edges now. I don't do city journals or anything fancy, but I can share screenshots or a video runthrough if you'd like.

My one constructive criticism after having been working on this map for a year is that the water flow in the two rivers is a little bit too small. There is only enough water in each river for 2-3 water pumps, and there is not enough to run a very productive hydroelectric plant without flooding the whole valley. I have to be very careful with water flow or else I start either drying up the rivers or getting flooding all the time.
Scotland Tom  [
@janisjan85 - I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with your trains. As far as I can tell the connections in the map are all fine so I'm not sure what the problem may be. Since yours is the first report I've had of this kind of issue on this map in 2 years, I'm guessing it's probably a problem with how you have your rail system set up, not the map itself.
Beautiful map, but I wonder. Are you sure that the railwais are connected to the outside world? I have just added a freight-terminal, but no freight trains arrives or departures. I haven't built a passenger station yet. Maybe that is a issue?
Gang of Minotaurs 2017
My favorite map in the game so far.
I've been building my current city on this map, and it's great: a better map than any of the built-in ones. :steamhappy:
Tyler 2016
Great map, but I wanted to let you know that the area where the Powatans existed, and where the first settlements were, was actually pretty flat. Not many big hills or small mountains like this map.
Nice work here mate, not just a flat pancake with trees on it.
A work of art !

This is to natural for big and dense city's

map aint showing up here
For me, the best map on the Workshop. The different levels of terrain, the challenge of using them in a senisible way (and not just paving over it all) gives the city a natural look. It could use some more resources though, and maybe some wind on the rivers, but otherwise it's $$$.
The map is nice and pretty but getting water for my growing city is really a problem. The rivers keep drying up. But working around the steep mountains has given my city an awesome look.
Also, very few resources other than trees make me sad :(
Incredible map! Getting some traffic problems from having one highway access though. Maybe it's just me being bad at highways.
Nice map! Did run into one issue though, 5 water pumps seems to be able to drain the river.
Gfurst 2015
Playing this map, its awesome and very challenging.. specially with limited slopes.
Its very rare to see a nice map with proper waterflow, much thanks!
Hey, what intersection did you use on the first tile?
Impressive display of what the map can give, I would like some tips on building maps...

Do you use photos of existing formations of land? Props on an amazing talent for artistic endevor
Just wanted to say that your maps are always very well done, and they have added tons of replayability to this game for me. When I look for a new map, it always seems that 90% of the ones that catch my eye end up being yours. And I have no problem with that
Many thanks Tom! I've been looking for a good map to give a winter makeover ;)
I only have to figure out a way to 'dust' the trees with snow.

@Dave the Medic - Thanks again for another great review! This is probably the map I enjoy playing on the most, so I'm glad you chose it.

@Oakshios - That's so great to hear! I'm glad you're enjoying my creations!

@Tytalus - That is hilarious! Must've taken forever for that reservoir to fill though.

Amazing map, thanks very much. Also, perfect for making a disaster simulator: http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=432390618

My favorite map of yours. Thanks for the dedication to provide fun, unique and high quality content for us to enjoy!
Scotland Tom  [
@Zake - One thing that's nice about elevated highways is that they flow over rough terrain better than ground-level highways. Ground-level highways conform much more rigidly to the terrain and often create odd bumps and angles. That's why I used elevated highways on this map. I have, however, figured out some better methods for laying smoother ground-level highways, so you'll see more of them in future maps.
Zake 2015
The terrain is amazing, but I really don't like the miles of elevated highways. In my experience, elevated roads are an expensive rarity mostly limited to bridging chasms or relieving a dense business district. I'm probably going to re-do most of the highways before I'm done. Otherwise, all other aspects of the map are amazing, and should result in some beautiful screenshots before I'm done.
Ah, glad to hear that is intentional. The water level of the river had dropped noticeably by the time I was at 20K residents. I built a bunch of water towers up on one of the mesas and the river's flow volume is healthier now. And yeah, having to actually think long and hard about which tiles to unlock next is pretty cool.
Scotland Tom  [
@nonamenewguy - That looks friggin' fantastic, man! I love it! And yeah, without the terraforming tools mod there really is no good way to make good switchbacks and other types of mountain roads. I dare say it's a required mod for maps like this. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome map, love it.
Made me banging my head on the table trying to build mountain roads... =) Ended up cheating with terraform tools to get it real enough (no crazy road slope)

Scotland Tom  [
@n0af - That's exactly the kind of decision this map was designed around. Every option you have has its own benefits and drawbacks. If you expand up to the top of the bluffs there is tons of flat area up there to expand your city, but very little in the way of water. If you want to build a thriving shipyard then you'll have to take a coastal tile. If you think you risk drying up the river if you add more pumps you may want to expand to the other river on the map to get more water.

This map was specifically designed to offer interesting expansion choices. It's completely up to you what you choose based on your city's needs and your personal interest. Good luck!
I need tips.. I've started building a city, and it took me quite a while to get to 30,000 residents. Now I've realized that my city doesn't have much place to expand. Should I go up on the mountains, or stay next to the river? i don't really get this...
Scotland Tom  [
You guys are all very welcome! I'm glad you're liking the map.

This map is achingly beautiful. Thank you.
