@aerosabe: if your comment on tediousness was for loading the mostly empty world, it's just one load when you first launch the game once. I don't think it even needs a text panel in it. You just have to load a game, so why not the smallest possible?

It's even easier than my earlier post suggested. I've found everything is fixed if you just ctrl-esc to the desktop and switch right back to the game. A little annoying, but once per session isn't bad.

It's not just your panel aerosabe, it's all of them, vanilla included.

I just load a game with a text panel floating in the smallest empty world possible, then load what I want to play.

How to fix the loading problem: Exit to the main menu screen, do not exit the entire game, reload your save. The problem should fix itself. It always does for me.
