Why do you think it's weird? It's an alternative spelling. And it helps younger japanese kids/teenagers read. Have you ever read japanese manga? Lots of hiragana. It's not that hard to understand why some kanji is replaced with hiragana in a photo for a game. Even japanese stores use lots of hiragana/katakana.

This is why no one likes weebs.

why is 日本語 written as にほんご, I'm not japanese or anything but it seems weird not to use the kanji and opt for hiragana instead
