had a thought about. what if you could take your pups extra food pip? essentially, pups are all fed, but you ain't fed. completely on empty. Or are at least below the threshhold to safely hibernate.

Sooo. reverse leech pups mods. Activates only if you're below the threshhold of safe hibernation, and the pup is on full. they only lose that one extra pip, you all get to hibernate, so on.

This operates under the headcanon that Slugcats have a "crop". basically a. throat pouch-ish kindof thing that holds extra food outside the stomach? Meaning the way this works would be a pup (or like in the original mod, the parent) spitting up a portion of whatevers in their crop for the other slugcat.

and in the case of, waking up the next cycle, whatever is in the crop will be swallowed immediately.

Was totally immersion breaking... until I realized its basically a breast feeding mod. Practical, logical, and... fun? 9/10 mod.

this does work with rotund world. it will properly take extra pips from that mod and give them to the pup, however it will only feed the pup to its max food, and will not give the pup rotund world's extra pips

@StephanWeaverOfWorlds, Ha ha, sorry for throwing coding stuff at you. Rain World has a built-in function for changing reputation, so it's an easy fix. I’m glad you caught it – it definitely would’ve been annoying if left unchanged!

ohh, pos rep from feeding... an easy enough fix afterall I suppose (knows nothing about coding, is interesting to hear the process). And you're welcome! It wasn't bothering me terribly but I figured it'd annoy some folks later down the line- so better to nip it in the bud if possible, lol.

@StephanWeaverOfWorlds, hmmm, I know rain world was having an issue with pups becoming untamed every cycle. Normally giving them food would re-tame them but I guess this method doesn’t do that. That should be easy to fix, I’ll just make the pups gain positive reputation to the player when they feed off you. That makes sense anyway. Thanks for letting me know!

I've noticed a bit of an issue- when feeding the pup from myself, it retracts from the Mother achievement bar? I assume because the game thinks the pup hasn't eaten- even tho they have. Idk what code wizardy could be done to fix it, but figured I'd let ya know.

You should definitely give this mod rotund world compatibility so slugpups can feed off of the extra food pips from that mod (if this isn't already the case)

Ah yes, the chestfeeding mod.

seems to be working well enough! :D having more control over when the pup eats, and making a delay in food pips drained, makes it easy to control how much they take. So even if I don't have excess food pips, it works well! (For scugs like Rivulet, who only has one excess food pip, very handy)

would it be possible to make it so you feed them via a series of inputs? like, holding them, then crouching. or actively pressing "down" will let them feed? so they can't just leech off whenever. (in universe like giving the slugpup permission, I suppose.)

ahhhh but thank you dude, I'm real excited that you actually made it! This will make some compaigns so much easier- can just feed pup from myself as Artificer if all I can find is lizards and big centipede.

at this point slugpups are nothing but an ankle weight that does nothing on its own
however it is fun to spice up the gameplay to make it harder though

I have mixed feelings for this mod. part of me is happy I don't have to constantly keep track of their food as I can just hold them but then I also hate them for being (literal) leeches stealing the fruits of my labor so they can be lazy little toddlers who scream at the slightest inconvenience.
