You know, I was going to articulate a response. But then, I remembered that this was a project I worked on over 2 years ago as part of a contest where my main goal was to try to better myself and learn a new pipeline. All things considered for the time, I had done just that and I was proud of where I landed despite not fitting the historical theme of the game.

I had literally forgotten I had uploaded this until I get comments out of the blue, like yours. I mean honestly dude, I just don't care about your opinion, let alone how you feel about this archaic, outdated asset from over 2 years ago. It's all just quite laughable.

Geo, a common logical fallacy is appealing to consensus. Truth is not consensus. Why yourfriends/colleagues are uncritical is suspect. They may be "cotton woolling" you.
As an engineer and part-time lecturer, I have met many professional CGI & traditional artists- sculptors, painters, other media- and industrial designers. None dwell in such a cossetted, and insulated life.
At work reviewing industrial designs, that which is manufactured must conform to physical reaities NOT artists' whimsies. Ralph McQuarrie (Star Wars) an industrial designer- designed timeless objects which survive being dated due to a plausible appearance NOT the fantasy dross of the prequels. Ralph cut his drawing teeth drawing for aircraft and vehicle manufacturers.
I'll comment how and where I please. You will notice in the comments others also detest the infantile fantasy dross magically upvoted (I suspect script-botted) or perhaps we are upsetting your little custom skins monopoly racket?

It's interesting Ober. In my professional art career I've seen nothing but supportive individuals and caring friends. Quite the opposite of whatever "real" world you are talking about. @Ober. I made this two years ago as a student artist. At the time I deviated way to far from theme of the game, but hey it was a learning experience and I'm at least glad I submitted something in the editor. I get where you are coming from though man, definitely wouldn't fit in the game, and were I to ever try something for Chiv again I'd stay much more in line with historical accuracy.

On a different note, I found your attitude to be pretty poor. The way that you expressed your opinion could do a ton of harm to a beginning artist. You really should try to reflect on the way you talk to people man. Speaking like that offers so little in terms of helping someone learn. Shameful way to treat someone.

Ugly, stupid and poorly done. Steel in the head of the too-skinny handle would be as heavy as the person weilding it. Taking the enormous leap it could be weilded- It would snap at the handle. I echo Bulamatadi. This stupid modern American/ Chinese fantasy styling is horrible. It would never have existed as the cost would be ridiculously high, been utterly dreadful to use/wear and required too different labour-intensive manufacturing processes (hammered steel helmet with cast horns?- one little nudge and he'd fall over or break his neck). If they are meant to be hollow- the style you draw (rivets cos medieval) does not work.

The eye area needs to be redone

Despise all these infantile unrealistic fairy tale crap. Shove it! Keep that childish concoctions out of the game. It's already started to look rediculous due to all this unhistoric fantasy game bollocks. We don't need more of this.

Great question!

I started the contest with the helmet and I knew that my weapon would need to mirror the design of the helmet. I did indeed look at that image when trying to find references for the maul but I didn't want to make an exact copy of that weapon.

I referenced that image very little over the course of making the weapon so that it didn't influence the design I wanted to go with in the end. However, you can surely see resemblances especially considering the theme and function of the weapon.

@ Yummy Puddles, it isn't in the game quite yet. Hopefully if Torn Banner accepts the piece you will be able to subscribe and download it then =).

Yeah I'm pretty sure I got the special helmet. I think the criteria for getting the helmet was to have the WIP thread on Polycount and so long as you had that it didn't matter if you won or not. My advice would be to get into contact with Dylan Brady on Polycount and explain the situation to him. He was primarily responsible for any questions that came up during the event and he was also the one that reached out to me about the special gear.

I made my entry within deadline, but I also had to have a thread on Polycount. Alas, they were activating account so long that competition was over before I could even create a WIP thread.
So they didn't give me a hat.

@ S0ldier. Yes it will, Torn Banner is encouraging people to continue submitting items to the workshop. Even though this wasn't submitted within the original deadline it can still make it into the game via patch or hotfix provided enough people would want that.

One question: will this entry count if it was submitted on November 2nd?
